The Supervising Public Health Microbiologist position directs a section of microbiologists in the public health laboratory; acts as a consultant on test result interpretations; is directly responsible for the operation and staff of a section in the laboratory; and performs duties in the absence of the Laboratory Director, Public Health Lab.

**HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES**

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
- Job Offer and Background Process begins July 8, 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

**REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Current certification as a Public Health Microbiologist issued by the California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services, OR a certificate from the California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services indicating that the applicant has passed the state Public Health Microbiologist certification examination; AND,
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency with a major in Microbiology or a closely related field; AND,
- At least four (4) years of experience performing highly complex microbiology or immunology tests in a public health laboratory or in a laboratory that is certified by or exempt from the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1992, and must have included one (1) year of lead work experience.

**Note**:A master's or a doctorate degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency with a major in Microbiology or a closely related field, may be substituted for one and two years of experience, respectively. Experience must be within the last ten (10) years.- **CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**
