JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing nuclear medicine and PET/CT imaging procedures as well as other imaging duties under a registered nuclear medicine technologist's supervision.

This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands, and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Schedules and coordinates patient exams.
  2. Prepares and injects radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  3. Processes diagnostic imaging procedures and records radiopharmaceutical administration to patients.
  4. Receives and records appropriate information regarding receipts of radioactive materials and pharmaceuticals.
  5. Requests and coordinates all necessary patient information including medical charts, charge slips.
  6. Performs quality assurance procedures on the equipment daily including daily/weekly surveys and wipe testing procedures as required.
  7. Ensures compliance with the radioactive materials licensure requirements.
  8. Maintains strictest confidentiality.


OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: This position may require additional hours outside the normal 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday work schedule and travel to regional imaging locations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION:
  1. Graduate of an AMA-approved school of nuclear medicine.
  1. Must become registered by either the ARRT or NMTCB within 4 months of hire.
  2. State licence
  1. Current valid Arkansas driver's license.
  2. Current Arkansas State Nuclear Medicine Technologist License.
  3. BLS Required.


EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of nuclear medicine technology technical principles and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of quality care standards for nuclear medicine.
  3. Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients, and visitors.
  4. Skilled in injecting radiopharmaceuticals intravenously for imaging procedures.
  5. Skilled in using computer network systems competently to process patient and department information.
  6. Skilled in assuming responsibility for safety factors.
  7. Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients.


REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
  1. Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
  2. Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.

This position involves the potential exposure to radiopharmaceuticals and therefore required to wear monitoring device at all times.
