Overview

Assistant Prosecutor

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is seeking candidates to fill vacancies for the position of Assistant Prosecutor. An Assistant Prosecutor performs a wide range of duties, including evaluating the merits of a criminal case, preparing the case for trial, and advocating on behalf of victims and in the best interest of the State of New Jersey.

WORK HOURS:Monday through Friday, minimally 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM, occasional weekend hours as required by one's trial schedule.SALARY:• Candidates with no prior legal experience: Starting 2024 salary of $70,889. annually• Candidates with prior legal experience: Salary commensurate with the level of experience held.Future annual and step salary increases are delineated in the Assistant Prosecutor Collective Bargaining Agreement.BENEFITS:Health, prescription, and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick time, enrollment in the New Jersey Public Employee Retirement System (PFRS) - Prosecutors Part

DESCRIPTION OF THE EMPLOYMENT PROCESS:Conditional Offers of Employment will only be extended to candidates that pass the interview process, which involves a series of interviews with varied Assistant Prosecutors and the County Prosecutor. The conditional offer of employment letter contains the salary being offered, the employment application and the anticipated employment start date.Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the candidate will have to submit a completed employment application within the time frame specified and undergo a comprehensive background investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES:

Duties commonly associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

* Making appearances and representing the State's interests in Court (adult, juvenile, and family courts).
* Drafting pleadings, indictments, briefs, and legal memoranda.• Processing and prosecuting criminal matters.• Managing an assigned caseload and overseeing all aspects of the criminal prosecution, including interviewing, and subpoenaing all necessary witnesses; researching relevant statutes and case law; reviewing pertinent police, forensic and expert reports; arguing pre-trial motions and negotiating plea agreements.• Supervising and advising law enforcement agencies on issues arising during criminal investigations.• Coordinating with the Victim/Witness Unit in an effort to assist victims and witnesses of crime.

Qualifications

The candidate must have strong interpersonal, research, and written and oral communication skills and the ability to organize, interpret and apply legal principles, and analyze and address complex legal issues using sound professional judgment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Must possess a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university.• Must be a member in good standing with the Bar of the State of New Jersey.• Must be a resident of the State of New Jersey.• Must be a U.S. Citizen.• Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver's license.• Bi-lingual candidates are preferred, but not required.
