Position: Clinical Pharmacist

Department: Inpatient

Schedule: Per Diem

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager of Pharmacy Operations, the Clinical Pharmacist I is primarily responsible for the pharmacy utilization management (UM) activities, including review of all pharmacy prior authorization requests, oversight of the UM activities of the Pharmacy Services support staff, maintenance of pharmacy UM programs, provide clinical peer-to-peer consultation as needed, provide pharmacy-related customer service to internal and external parties, and serve as a subject matter expert for claims issue resolution. In addition, the Clinical Pharmacist I may provide implementation support for formulary management decisions and clinical policies and provide peer trainings as needed. The Clinical Pharmacist I may also participate in care management activities as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

* Work requires a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy. Advanced degree (e.g. PharmD, M.S. or MBA) preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

* Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of Massachusetts by the hire date
* APHA Certified Immunizer (within 12 months of starting this position)

EXPERIENCE:

* Experience in direct supervision of technical support staff for clinical and/or service and operational programs is desirable.
* Experience in a managed care setting, either from the provider, the payer, or the PBM side of the industry, is preferred.
* MTM Certification is desirable
* Proficiency in standard computational office-suite applications, including word-processing and relational database manipulation is required.
* Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

* Work requires a comprehensive understanding of the procedures, systems, and equipment used by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy as well as a high level of proficiency in performing pharmacist's duties and responsibilities.
* Work requires a high level of analytical ability, organizational and personal management skill and focus to ensure the concerted approach to operations.
* Practice experience working with as well as revising and/or implementing information systems.
* Excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills.
* Professional in conduct and demeanor.
* Proficient with standard software used in healthcare office setting (i.e. MS Word, Excel, web browser, etc.)
