Behavior Specialist
TheBehavior Specialist provides consultation and direct behavioral and educationally- related mental health support to special education students preschool through grade 12.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Consults with administrators, teachers, and other school personnel as needed regarding student's social and emotional needs as well as progress in the classroom.
- Develops and supports the implementation of function based assessments. This includes, but is not limited to, accurate collection and analysis of data and observation of staff to ensure fidelity of implementation.
- Develops goals based on assessment to enhance social skills, self-control, mood management, and interpersonal relationships.
- Attends conferences/professional development necessary to assist in the development of the IEP and BIP.
- Delivers training to district staff on behavior interventions and best practices.
- Crisis interventionwith students as needed or requested.
- Assistsin the design/evaluation of behavior management programs as requested.
- Documentsstudent progress and maintains appropriate data/records pertaining to behavior intervention services.
- Providesindividual assessment of student's behavior.
- Provides individual and small group social skills instruction as necessary to implement behavior goals and plan.
- Consults with the student's family regarding progress and community resources.
- Consults with community agencies to maintain ongoing communication regarding students as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Knowledge and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of and classroom teaching experience with children who have emotional and learning disabilities.
- Ability to develop, prepare, deliver, and monitor IEP's based on identified skill and behavioral deficit areas.
- A background in AppliedBehavior Analysis is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience developing, reporting and administering Behavior Intervention plans.
- Work effectively with children and adolescents.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary educational support team while communicating effectively within a team-based approach.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships.
- Work independently and make decisions within the framework of established guidelines.
- Effectively communicate student needs with parents, teachers, staff, and administrators.
Qualifications:
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification preferred OR Indiana Teaching License in special education that includes the area of Emotional Disability, plus a minimum two years working in a school setting working with children who have serious emotional disabilities and/or learning disabilities.
