Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

This Biomed Maintenance Technician (also known as Clinical Instrument Specialist) is responsible for the maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and automation line downtime, management of ancillary equipment and or systems for optimal performance, and participating in various facility management items.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain multiple instrument/equipment in a timely manner to ensure production efficiencies are maintained.
  • Maintain biomedical equipment according to manufactures guidelines and recommendations.
  • Preparation of instrumentation for the Medical Technologist staff to complete calibration and quality control as required.
  • Ensuring functionality of all medical equipment including part replacement, troubleshooting as directed by vendor during phone support or setting up necessary on- site service by the vendor.
  • Complete Maintenance logs and documents all service requests.
  • Keeps all instrument repair documentation logs are retained and organized per instrument per CLIA/CAP guidelines.
  • Support technical staff by calling service when needed and documenting service call # to MT in charge; engaging vendors and escalating issues to management as necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory spare/replacement parts as needed for laboratory instrumentation and ancillary equipment.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the operations of laboratory instrumentation and automation; offer suggestions for change as needed.
  • Record and maintain error logs and corrective action forms.
  • Assist in planning and installation of new instrumentation/equipment.
  • Assist in facility management as needed for the installation of new instruments.
  • Ensure all instruments are available for production shift. Document any issues with instrumentation before production shift begins.
  • Assist, create, and/or review daily shift reports and other special departmental reports as needed per management.
  • Handle difficult issues or interactions tactfully, courteously, and professionally.
  • Ensure effective written and verbal communication regarding information/issues to management, other inter-departmental members, and vendors. Ensure effective internal customer service.
  • Review, adhere to, and maintain an awareness of the departmental procedures, staying current with procedural changes.
  • Participate in weekend, coverage as needed.
  • Demonstrate the flexibility to work independently as well as a team contributing to a positive work environment and to the team effort of all Clinical Laboratory departments.
  • Participate in long short term departmental goals and projects.
  • Exercise all lab safety precautions including Universal Precautions.
  • Abide by all regulatory, company, and departmental regulations, policies and procedures, including the Corporate Compliance Program and Security policies.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

Requirements

EDUCATION LICENSURE:

  • Associates of Applied Science (AAS) in Instrumentation Technology, Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of prior clinical laboratory job experience is preferred with knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret instrumentation error codes.
  • Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, preferred
  • Typing/data entry experience required (50 wpm).
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong record of punctuality and attendance required.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong ability to prioritize.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to multi-task required.
