Adventist Health Clear Lake is a 25-bed, critical access hospital serving Lake, Butte & Tehama Counties with key service areas including rural health clinics that provide urgent care, behavioral health, cancer, dental, family medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, neurology, orthopedic and pain management to name a few.
This is a grant-funded position and is temporary up to June 2024. Notwithstanding, Adventist Health does not guarantee employment for any specific term and is subject to Adventist Health's at-will employment policy.
Job Summary:
Provides oral hygiene and preventive services to dental patients. Evaluates and assesses provision of services. Performs procedures safely in compliance with regulations under the direction of a dentist. Prepares materials and equipment for treatment and has them ready for dentist's use.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
* Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
* Dental Hygienist licensure in the state of practice: Required
* Radiation Safety Certificate: Required
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
* Licensed Dental Hygienist (RDH): Required
Essential Functions:
* Conducts patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse.
* Takes and develop dental radiographs (x-rays). Removes calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth. Applies preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides).
* Teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling). Counsels patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health.
* Makes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs).
* Prepares patients for services, documents procedures and assists with other office management activities, i.e., scheduling patients, as needed.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
