Assist the Behavior Specialist in providing support to learners, educators, and staff to improve and encourage positive behavior of learners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 48 hours of College credit or Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and/or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
• Able to effectively work and communicate with learners, parents, school personnel and community from diverse cultures and backgrounds
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working with school-aged children preferred
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Staff Support
• Assist Behavior Specialists and classroom educators in collecting data to document learner IEP progress
• Assist with implementation of strategies in the Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) with a gradual release to the educator
• Assist special educators with data collection strategies for Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals
• Ensure that rules and procedures for disciplinary actions of learners with disabilities are effective and conform to federal and state regulations
• Attend team meetings and department meetings
• Support special programs staff in observing, managing and monitoring student progress
• Help manage the behavior of the learners. This includes intervening in crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and physical management as required to abate the crisis.
• Assist in short-term behavior intervention for general education and special education learners

Other
• Relate to staff, learners and parents in ways that convey equality, mutual respect and concern
• Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements and verbal and written directives
• Positively offer, receive and use constructive feedback
• Redirect parent queries to special educator or behavior specialist
• Actively and productively contribute to meetings and professional learning
• Maintain confidentiality of learner and staff records and information

• Complete all other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Equipment Used:

Personal computer; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook); printer, copier and fax machine; and Google Apps, learner specific equipment for communication and/or physical needs.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Patience and emotional control under stress. Organization in order to frequently monitor compliance. Concentration on required tasks. Flexibility in performing daily activities. Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Moderate lifting and carrying; may be required to lift and transfer learners to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning learners with physical disabilities and/or use adaptive/assistive equipment. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations. Exposure to biological hazards.
