JOB DESCRIPTION
Middle School Reading Interventionist (.5 FTE)
Position Goal
The goal of the Reading Interventionist is to provide high-quality instruction, support, and leadership to produce high-quality outcomes in the area of Reading and Literacy for the students. The Reading Interventionist will lead the charge in creating a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books, and a genuine, institutional love for reading in reading specific lessons to meet the individual needs and ensure the student can access grade level standards and ultimately develop a love for reading.
Supervision and Evaluation
As determined by the Weston Public School Teacher Evaluation Plan
Qualifications
- CT Certification required either Reading and Language Arts Consultant (097) or Remedial Reading (102)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of and appreciation for reading, literacy, and special education
- Minimum five years of exemplary teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate a collaborative and collegial approach
- Excellent human relations skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and organization skills
Performance Responsibilities
- Monitors the reading progress of all students a minimum of three times per year and making recommendations for the adjustment of instruction according to student-specific needs identified from multiple data points and aligned with the science of reading
- Facilitating data analysis discussions and supporting teachers by using data to differentiate instruction according to the needs of students by adhering to the framework of tiered instruction.
- Plans for and provides direct instruction to students identified as needing tiered intervention support
- Designs and implements research-based interventions with targeted students in reading
- Identifies and addresses the specific literacy needs of targeted students through the administration of screening and diagnostic assessments
- Assesses student performance and monitors progress to guide the intervention services provided
- Clearly articulate a plan to support the school and classroom teachers to connect intervention, instruction, and assessment for students during the school year.
- Assists building administration to establish school-wide and individual reading goals.
- Develops lessons and materials, instruct, and use data to drive instruction for very small groups and individuals
- Works collaboratively with grade-level teams to plan and develop differentiated lessons based on researched-based strategies and literacy practices.
- Establishes a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming environment for students
- Promotes high standards for academic success and behavior and continually encourage students to meet them
- Works collaboratively with special education and regular education classroom teachers to implement targeted reading instruction that is research-based and tailored to student needs
- Coordinates with other professional staff members regarding reading, assessments, and personalized teaching techniques; assists, coaches and models effective personalized instructional strategies for classroom teachers
- Documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents through regular communication on student progress
- Meets with building and/or district administrator to provide updates on student progress
- Creates an articulated schedule with the building administrator for his/her work with intervention students
- Maintains the ethics of the teaching profession as outlined in the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers
- Performs other related tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Assistant Director of Special Education, Building Administrator, and/or Assistant Superintendent

As established by the contract between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers Association
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Weston Plan for the
Improvement of instruction and evaluation of teachers and applicable State Statutes
