Job Description

The Radiology Tech Aide assists the technologist(s) by providing support with the patient preparation for exam, transporting, clerical/data entry, screening, room readiness, assist during procedures and assisting with diagnostic cases. The aide ensures patient privacy and excellent customer service and can multi-task and address issues independently, as necessary.

******This is a Full-Time Position 37.50 a week/ Mon-Friday 3pm-11pm***********

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Respects and protects the patient's rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for professional purposes which are in the patient's best interests with full consideration of their legal rights.
  2. Provides safe patient care by verifying patient identification according to established policy and assures the presence of any screening forms, scripts and all laboratory reports indicated. Brings patients to exam rooms, asks pre-clinical questions and prior history. Fax doctor offices for revised script and keep track of sent scripts in binder.
  3. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, and other hazardous substances.
  4. Facilitates workflow for all out-patient radiology modalities. Prints daily schedules to ensure optimal workflow. Puts together patient folders with reports and scripts. Communicates any delays to the front desk and patients. Handles all incoming calls and communication from various doctors' offices/ ICC/POP/STAT LINE. Updates radiologists with pending patients at end of day.
  5. Knowledge of and performs specific tasks in the following systems:


  • MEDITECH: for data entry, patient tracking, scheduling. Change and add orders for the technologists when needed. Charge and depart patients after exam is completed.
  • SYNAPSE: scanning scripts and patient breast forms, checking reports, check imaging from outside priors
  • MAGVIEW: Print Radiologist evening worklist to make result phone calls from night before and documenting patient result calls (approx. 115 calls), assist patients to fill out patient's history and Breast Cancer Risk Assessment form and enters the information in Magview.
  • HOLOGIC: ability to pull prior imaging from Synapse.
  • SCI SOLUTIONS- scheduling maximizer- look up patient scripts in scheduling viewer- check patient appointment time
  • HPF: Look for scripts and print if necessary
  1. Upload outside imaging and reports into our PACS system
  2. Retrieve prior images from the manager system
  3. Provides negative results to patients for same day breast imaging results and documents accordingly. Calls patients with same day negative results.
  4. Shows diagnostic mammograms to radiologist and communicates with technologist about any additional imaging needed. Communicates negative results to patients.
  5. Assists with patient and room readiness, including patient dressing, restroom needs, as well as ensuring clean and stocked patient care areas (e.g., changing rooms, waiting areas, exam room, etc.). Unload and store laundry delivery when arrives. Cross covers Out-Patient Cat Scan and MRI when needed- duties include set up table for exam, set up tray for contrast, check patient labs for next day exams, ensure scripts are available for next day exams.
  6. Assist patients with changing into gowns, escort patients to bathroom if needed.
  7. Check logbooks daily
  8. Preparing packets for next day's procedures
  9. Transport patients to the OR as needed.
  10. Order forms as needed
  11. Knowledgeable of all radiation safety guidelines, as well as in use of equipment and supplies necessary to prepare for each procedure (breast biopsies within Mammo, US and MRI).
    • Pre exam care and obtain information relevant to the procedure
  12. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • One year of Radiology department experience highly preferred.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal professional relationships with physicians, management, peers, patients, and their families.
  • Must convey a positive attitude and present a professional appearance.
  • Must have effective communication (both oral and written) skills sufficient to resolve conflicts, and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.
  • Must have sufficient organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues and conflict.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate the ability and flexibility to effectively handle challenging and stressful situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Must have to ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information
