ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:Non rotating 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional community meetings or events before 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM or on weekends as required.

Responsibilities

Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions by getting along with co-workers, or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes, performing work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading, or communicating with others; and responding appropriately to criticism from a supervisor. A Compliance Officer will investigate complaints for abandoned motor vehicles, junked vehicles, vacant lots and occupied properties by driving to sites to visually inspect properties for compliance with established codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations. Respond to complaints by meeting with citizens and reviewing allegations of violations; investigating allegations, determining appropriate action in resolving allegations and following established procedures. Oversee the abatement of violations through outsourced contractors by preparing specifications for mowing, cleaning and demolition of property; providing property owners with written directions and requirements for bringing violations into compliance with required standards; and filing charges against violators as necessary. Serve as the City's representative by meeting with citizens and/or citizen groups to provide information for proper disposal of solid waste and other issues of concern to property owners. Interpreting and enforcing City Building and Housing Standard Codes, City Code of Ordinance and State Legislation in accordance with health, safety and welfare of the general public. Maintains professional and technical knowledge and skills by keeping required license; certification current. Duties of this position require traveling to sites within the city. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requires an Associate's Degree and two (2) years of directly related experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered. Will be required to obtain Basic Code Enforcement Officer Certification within one year of hire. A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.
