Vernon Rehabilitation and HCC is seeking a RN Candidate for our 40 hour Supervisor position on Second shift 3-11p and Third shift 11p-7a. Ideal candidate will work Monday - Friday with No weekends scheduled.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with all department heads, is responsible for the general management of the facility's nursing operations which includes providing optimal care, communicating the facility's policies and ensuring the general order, safety and cleanliness of the facility.

· Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut.

· Minimum of three years of additional education or experience in geriatric nursing or rehabilitation. Requires at least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

· Knowledge of nursing theory and practice including the administration of medications.

· CPR certified.

· Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.

· Fluent knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment.

· Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.

Assists in interpretation of nursing policies and ensures appropriate implementation. Directs and enforces policies and procedures with staff, families, and visitors.
Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel on assigned shift to maintain continuity of nursing care. Acts as a resource in all areas of clinical care. Resolves work related complaints of charge nurses and CNA's during assigned shift.
Makes rounds on nursing units to ensure maximum care and to ascertain condition of residents. Communicates family concerns.
Responds to emergencies within the facility and provides medical oversight.
Verifies that all clinical changes are reported to the physician. Verifies physicians’ orders as needed.
Secures pre-admission report on new residents.
Ensures a safe environment for residents and staff.
Ensures all documentation on medical record is complete and is accurate (including but not limited to: A & I’s; 24 Hour Nursing Report; Nursing Assessments; Monthly Kardexes/MD Orders; Documentation involving Admissions, Discharges, Deaths, and Transfers). Conducts chart audits.
Ensures availability of supplies and equipment. Reports malfunctioning equipment to DNS/ADNS.
Oversees schedules of physicians. Notifies physicians and Medical Director that visits to residents are due.
Assumes DNS/ADNS responsibility in their absence and charge nurse responsibility if necessary.
Audits emergency drug cart and crash cart to assure they are properly stocked.
Audits control of drugs and counts controlled medications at the beginning and end of each shift.
Ensures that all peripheral IV’s are initiated per facility policy and monitors overall IV program. Ensures IV policy is updated annually.
Responsible to assign nursing personnel in emergencies to maintain patient care hours.
Completes 90 day and annual employee performance reviews.
