A. Organize, Supervise, and Evaluate the Nursing Services throughout the facility
1. Participate in the development of, and annual review of Nursing Department policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
2. Retain and develop clinical staff.
3. Develops nursing staffing patterns and work schedules for licensed, non-licensed and assistive living units.
4. Assures implementation of resident care policies.
5. Develop and implement criteria and tools to evaluate the effectiveness of the Nursing Department.
6. Cooperates with and promptly addresses recommendations made by facility consultants.
7. Participates in interviewing applicants as needed and is available to participate and assist Unit Managers in Counseling Employees.
8. Assist Unit Managers with performance evaluations in conjunction with personnel policies and staff performance.
9. Develops behavior expectation plans to promote clinical competency.
B. Supervise and Evaluate Resident Care Based on Clinical Standards of Practice
1. Assess the overall health status of prospective and current residents to determine appropriate services and level of care in the nursing home and assistive living units as needed.
2. Provide consultation to licensed nurses regarding policies, procedures, and resident care and clinical monitoring.
3. Review audits of physician and other health professionals visits for timeliness as needed.
4. Reviews skin reports, interventions and standards of practice as needed
5. Monitors infections, monthly rate of infections, and recommends interventions collaboratively with the Clinical Support Staff and DON.
6. Participates in discharge planning with interdisciplinary team and provides resident education as necessary.
7. Oversees side rail compliance in collaboration with Clinical Support Staff.
8. Maintain Elopement policies, procedures, and drills.
C. Assist with Safety Assurance for Residents and Staff Members
1. Observe staff members’ safety practices and reporting procedures and initiate measures for retraining when necessary.
2. Inspect the environment for risk factors during rounds.
3. Observe staff compliance with security procedures and initiate retraining as necessary.
4. Initiate corrective action plans for prevention of accidents/incidents when necessary.
5. Reviews incident/accident reports and promptly communicate unusual occurrences to appropriate individuals.
6. Reviews reports of staff members health clearance to verify health safety prior to permitting direct resident care.
7. Observes staff compliance with OSHA requirements.
8. Inspects and observes the use of medical devices.
9. Develops quarterly quality assessments and improvement statistical reports.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE*
1. Licensed Registered Nurse graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current license to practice in the State of Indiana in good standing. 2. Two years’ experience in geriatric or long-term care nursing and two years in supervisory role or administrative role.
*PHYSICAL DEMANDS*

* Will need to be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist and reach to the floor.
* Must have eye/hand coordination sufficient to set up and administer injections, prepare/administer medications and treatments and adjusting flow rates and use medical equipment.
* Pushes/pulls medication/treatment carts weighing 100 pounds a distance of 600 feet.
* Must be able to clearly speak at a volume adaptable to the hearing impaired.
* Lifts and carries equipment weighing 25 pounds.

*Cognitive*

* Must be able to remember multiple assignments over an extended period of time.
* Be able to remember data derived from assessments and document, review, specific requests, ideas and concepts and relate them as necessary.
* Must be able to concentrate on details during constant interruptions.

*WORK ENVIRONMENT*
Works primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting. There is the potential for exposure to blood, body tissues and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. Exposure to chemicals is occasional. There is known stress associated with working with residents who are ill, confused, irritable, irrational.
