A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LOW VOLTAGE FOREMAN:
As a Low Voltage / Audio Visual Foreman, you effectively oversee a team and assist them with completing various cabling and installation jobs. You provide guidance and hands-on support as you and your team install, terminate, and test various types of voice, data, and video cables as well as maintain various infrastructures and hardware implementations. Working mainly in construction, commercial, multi-family, and industrial environments, you run low voltage and fiber optic cables throughout conduits, walls, ceilings, and buildings, ensuring that the cables are neatly managed and terminated and the associated hardware is properly installed. You also test and terminate existing cabling as well as install network devices, making sure everything is functional and in compliance with relevant codes. Attentively, you install and test support structures such as j-hooks, conduit, innerduct, and cable racks.
For every job, a small team of technicians will assist you with completing the work. By working with your Project Manager, you will strategically delegate tasks amongst your technicians and supervise them as they work, offering constructive advice and providing training when appropriate. As the job progresses, you keep everyone on track and focused on completing the project within your timeline. You ensure every tech follows all jobsite safety guidelines as they work and keep the job site a safe and orderly place to be. Additionally, you keep your Project Manager updated on each project's progress and promptly inform them about any complex issues regarding the project or the technicians. WORK SCHEDULE FOR A LOW VOLTAGE FOREMAN - ELECTRICIAN
This foreman position typically works 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility depending on construction site scheduling requirements. There is also the occasional opportunity to work overtime.
Required Experience / Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience as a lead low voltage (or similar) technician OR experience as a construction/jobsite foreman or supervisor (or equivalent)
- Experience with some or all of the following: CCTV, low-voltage cables and infrastructure, audio-visual systems, and electronic access controls. (Experience with electrical work may be considered)
- Knowledge about or experience with installing Computers, Point-Of-Sale systems, TVs and monitors, or media players
- Conduit bending and installation experience
- Previously held an AESBL certification/license
- Previously taken safety courses or knowledge of jobsite safety
- Ability to wear proper PPE based on the requirements of jobsites
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs
- Knowledge and ability to use power tools and hand tools
- Ability to travel between jobsites, when required, via a company vehicle
- Ability to work 1 to 2 hours away from Birmingham when needed
- Ability to stay in company-provided lodging, if needed, to work multiple days
- Ability to use company-provided Macbook to meet job needs as required
- Ability to read building/construction plans to lead team on jobsites
