Job Description: Historical Teacher with Expertise in Biblical History

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Historical Teacher with a robust knowledge of biblical history and general history subjects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of history courses, including a specialized focus on the history of the Bible. The position requires someone capable of integrating biblical history with broader historical contexts while maintaining an objective, non-theological approach.

The teacher should provide comprehensive instruction in the following key areas:
  • Old Testament and Ancient Societies: Exploring the historical context, culture, and geography related to Old Testament times.
  • Old Testament + Geography: Understanding the geographical influences on biblical events and ancient civilizations.
  • New Testament + Church History: Analyzing early Christian history, core Christian beliefs, and their evolution.
  • New Testament + Philosophy: Discussing the philosophical underpinnings and ethical teachings emerging from New Testament texts.
  • Contemporary Issues (Grades 11-12): Addressing modern ethical and moral dilemmas through a historical lens.
  • Christian Life and Community: Examining historical examples of Christian community life and its influence on societal development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach history courses with a primary focus on the intersection of biblical history and general historical contexts.
  • Develop and deliver curriculum that integrates biblical history without engaging in theological instruction.
  • Facilitate discussions on key historical events, societal impacts, and philosophical ideas emerging from biblical texts.
  • Use diverse teaching methods, including lectures, interactive discussions, and project-based learning.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to critical thinking, encouraging students to engage with complex historical issues.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and class participation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Stay updated with current scholarship in biblical history, world history, and pedagogy.

Qualifications:
  • Two-year Bible college degrees are accepted; however, candidates must be willing to obtain teaching certification if not already certified. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in history, Biblical Studies, Theology (with a focus on history), or a related field. 
  • Strong understanding of both biblical history and broader historical contexts (e.g., ancient civilizations, church history, modern ethics).
  • Experience teaching history at the middle school, high school, or college level.
  • Ability to present biblical history objectively, focusing on its historical context rather than theological interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring students.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching history courses with a focus on integrating Biblical texts as historical documents.
  • Knowledge of Christian philosophy and its influence on Western civilization.
  • Ability to address contemporary moral and ethical issues from a historical perspective.
