Job descriptionDiscovery Years is looking for a dedicated CERTIFIED SUBSITUTE TEACHER for our UPK classroom through Vernon Board of Education.  This candidate must have their PARA PRO and/or Certified Substitute license. This candidate is going to provide a nurturing and safe environment for our students to help develop and reach age-appropriate milestones. This candidate will demonstrate good judgment and engage with each of our little ones using Tools of the Mind Curriculum.

This candidate must be a fun-loving and caring individual, with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young children. Our teachers are highly responsible and highly reliable We are looking for a positive role model for our young students This is a year-round position. This candidate must be professional and ready to go on day 1.  We are here to provide our students with an exemplary early education

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Supervises and manages daily functions for a class of children
  • A desire to make every moment a teachable one
  • A commitment to nurturing, inspiring, and delighting the children in your care
  • A passion for creating lifelong learners
  • Assesses each child's developmental needs on an ongoing basis
  • Provides an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages creativity, exploration, and decision-making by the children
  • Attends all required staff meetings, workshops, and/or school functions as determined by the Director and the Board of Education 
  • Observes all rules and regulations about the health, safety, and care of children
  • Maintains a professional personal appearance, attitude, and work behavior at all times
  • Assist in the maintenance of the classroom. Each classroom is to be neat, clean and clutter-free. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department of Education. 


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must meet all requirements stipulated by the state for this position
  • 1+ years of teaching experience, specifically with children ages 3-5 years old. 
  • Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality
  • Highly professional and dependable
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
  • Strong organization skills, able to multi-task, and can manage time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to interact with students of all ages and skill levels
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations
