Early Start Pre-K Lead Teacher

In this role, the Early Start/Pre-K Lead Teacher will be responsible for implementing, managing, and evaluating age-appropriate classroom activities in a licensed childcare setting. Examples of Duties: (not in order of priority): Any one position may not include all the duties listed; nor do the listed examples include all that may be found in positions of this class. Daily Classroom Management:
  • Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans based on individual needs and interests of each child. Ensures accurate completion of daily reports and documentation, including attendance, daily activity logs and incident reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring classroom meets all Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing rules and Step Up to Quality Standards.
  • Ensures each child’s needs are met, including following proper procedures for diapering, feeding, physical care and emotional engagement.
  • Completes childcare assessments as required and communicates any developmental concerns to Program Administrator; makes referral to appropriate community resources if needed.
  • Creates and promotes warm and welcoming environment for both parents and children.

Communication with Parents:
  • Greet and interacts with parents’ daily, offering support, education, and resources when necessary.
  • Communicate positive information about child whenever possible.
  • Be open and willing to schedule parent conferences and classroom visitations when desired by parent, teacher, or Program Administrator.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Creates and actively maintain registry through the Ohio Professional Development Network, obtains and maintains all required training and certifications
  • Identify a designated contact and lead person for all communications regarding child screenings,
  • data entry and participation in operational meetings regarding child data; Secure parent permission for the child to be screened in early literacy (Get Ready to Read) and math (Preschool Early Numeracy-Brief Measure) by a third party; Provide parents with information about the screening instruments and reasons for screenings; Work with the Screening Administrator to identify a time and location for screenings.
  • Sign and adhere to an agreement for CeeHiVE data entry;  Complete up to 9 hours of training for CeeHiVE (data entry, reports and scoring process for the Preschool to Kindergarten Transition Summary (PKTS) as pre- and post-measures of child progress) and respond to notices and/or attend required meetings as needed for CeeHiVE and/or screening administration.
  • Implement the Preschool to Kindergarten Transition Summary (PKTS) to enhance promotion and a smooth transition for each child and family into the kindergarten setting. The PKTS must be entered into CeeHiVE by the end of the school year. Ohio’s Early Learning Assessment (ELA) may be substituted for the PKTS, and that data must be entered or uploaded in CeeHiVE by the end of the school year.
  •  Promote the YWCA philosophy that values diversity, the inclusion of individuals with special needs, and the importance of programming that celebrates the positive aspects of our multi-cultural society.
 Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Education, or related field required. 
  • Must have a Child Care Professional Level 3 on the Ohio Professional Development Network (OPDN). Minimum two years’ experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting. Certification in First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Child Abuse Recognition.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with staff, parents, and other professional; patience, energy, and ability to work in unpredictable environment; demonstrated desire to work with children and commitment to profession. 
  • Must have strong knowledge of appropriate practices for youth; must be mentally and physically able to carry out duties and recognize and act upon any hazards to a child’s safety and well-being; strong work ethics including trustworthiness and dependability; understanding of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing Rules and Ohio Step Up to Quality initiatives; knowledge of Ohio’s Learning Standards.
