 Job Information:
  • Department: Radiology - Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Scheduled Hours: 0730-1600.
  • Shift: Day.
  • Working Days: M-F, no weekends/holidays.
  • Location: Los Angeles, CA.
  • Status: 6 month temporary assignment with possibility of extension.

Job Summary:A registered certified pathology assistant (PA) working in a radiology department typically collaborates with radiologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. The PA plays a critical role in the diagnostic process by assisting with the collection, preparation, and analysis of tissue samples, which are often obtained through imaging-guided procedures such as biopsies. They work closely with radiologists to interpret imaging studies and correlate these findings with pathological data. This collaboration helps to ensure that patients receive a precise diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan, enhancing overall patient outcomes.
Job Duties:Tissue Handling and Preparation:
  • Assist in the collection and preparation of tissue samples for pathological examination.
  • Handle and process biopsies and other diagnostic specimens.
Gross Examination:
  • Conduct detailed gross examinations of surgical specimens.
  • Provide comprehensive descriptions and documentation to guide further analysis.
Autopsy Assistance:
  • Assist pathologists in performing autopsies, including preparations necessary for human post-mortem examinations, recording findings, and collecting samples.
Specimen Photography:
  • Capture high-quality images of specimens for documentation and study purposes.
Laboratory Management:
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure the laboratory adheres to all safety and regulatory standards.
Quality Control:
  • Participate in quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Patient Interaction:
  • Occasionally interact with patients to collect information or explain procedures as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Accurately document all findings and maintain detailed records.
  • Prepare reports for pathologists and radiologists.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with radiologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
Continuing Education:
  • Stay informed about advances in radiologic technology and participate in continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
Compliance:
  • Pathology Assistants are responsible for ensuring compliance with CA DPH regulations and adhering to the rules and regulations of the assigned hospitals and/or clinics. 
  • This encompasses maintaining licensures, participating in required trainings, and overseeing tasks such as retrieving medical records to uphold regulatory standards.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pathology Assistance or related field.
  • Certification from a recognized Pathologists’ Assistant program (such as the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants) OR or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pathology Assistant, preferably in a radiology setting.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers.
  • Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months.
  • Current Annual Health Clearance.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Reliable source of transportation.
