Position Title: Medicaid Unwind Community Health Worker Region 3
Contract Position
  • Supervisor: Medicaid Unwind Project Director

Position Summary: The Medicaid Unwind Community Health Worker is responsible for conducting outreach, phone calls, targeted canvassing, and participating in community events to promote and support successful Louisiana Medicaid Unwind project expectations in the following parishes: Lafourche, Saint John, Saint Charles, Saint James, Assumption, and Terrebonne (“Region 3”). The position will assist participating Federally Qualified Health Centers (“FQHCs”) in rendering outreach services and events in their designated region.
Overview:The Louisiana Medicaid Program currently provides medical assistance to more than two million individuals throughout the State. Due to the continuous enrollment condition under Section 6008 of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”), the Louisiana Department of Health (“LDH”), Bureau of Health Services Financing (“BHSF”) has not ended coverage or re-determined eligibility for many Louisiana Medicaid beneficiaries since March 2020.
Beginning in April 2023, BHSF will resume conducting full renewals for all Louisiana Medicaid beneficiaries and terminating coverage for any beneficiaries who are no longer eligible. This effort, commonly referred to as “Medicaid Unwind,” will necessitate an extensive outreach and education campaign to ensure Louisiana Medicaid beneficiaries, providers, and other key stakeholders are informed of and prepared for the restart of eligibility reviews, or renewals. Additional contracted assistance is necessary to provide services and support for a campaign of this magnitude. LDH has entered into a contract with the Louisiana Primary Care Association effective March 1, 2023, to recruit FQHCs and Community Health Workers to assist LDH in the Medicaid Unwind initiative. The primary goal of this outreach and education campaign is to ensure everyone eligible for the Louisiana Medicaid Program maintains their coverage through the unwind period.Incentivize.
