The kennel assistant works side by side with the veterinary team to help ensure the hospital runs efficiently. They are primarily responsible for cleaning, stocking and organizing the hospital.  The kennel assistant looks for ways to continuously upkeep each room including but not limited to doing laundry, wrapping surgical packs/gowns, cleaning kennels, taking patients for potty walks, sweeping/mopping and various other tasks to maintain a sanitary veterinary hospital. 

Specific duties and responsibilities of kennel assistant include:
  • Clean and disinfect all areas of the hospital as often as is necessary to maintain high standards of care.
  • Wash soiled laundry and keep clean laundry stocked throughout the hospital.
  • Continuously monitor all rooms of the hospital to ensure cleanliness.
  • Keep inventory stocked in the treatment and exam rooms. 
  • Wash, wrap and sterilize surgical equipment and surgical suite. 
  • Safely take hospitalized dogs out for bathroom breaks.  
  • Clean and disinfect kennels and dog runs as they are soiled. 
  • Maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks. 
  • Various other tasks as assigned by the veterinary team. 


Kennel assistant requirements: 
  • Punctual and dependable 
  • Positive attitude 
  • Able to lift 40 pounds
  • Show initiative and look for ways to help without being asked
  • Detail oriented 
  • Okay being around and cleaning up blood, feces, urine,and vomit
  • Enjoy being a part of a fast-paced environment 
  • LOVE TO LEARN
