The Procurement Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of raw materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for the manufacturing process. This role involves developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of quality materials. The Manager also collaborates with other departments, such as production, sales, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of products or services to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support established safety and health standards to keep the organization accident-free.
- Motivate, support, and provide guidance to procurement team members.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure the best terms and ensure a reliable supply chain.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without overstocking, and coordinate with production and warehouse teams.
- Communicate regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting material and supply chain.
- Draft, review, and manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements. (All contracts require the Company President’s approval)
- Analyze market trends and pricing to make informed purchasing decisions and achieve cost savings.
- Establish a balance between quality and reduced costs of materials.
- Identify areas for continuous improvement and implement strategies to optimize procurement processes, reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Mentor and set productivity goals for the supply chain team.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Utilization of MRP/ERP software and applications for material planning and inventory control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM) is desirable.
- Experience in an ISO 9001:2015 environment is preferred, not required.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in purchasing or procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to oversee projects or fulfill work demands.
- Some travel may be required to vendor facilities.
