Position: Lead Electronic Repair Technician

Summary:

Gateway Studio and Production Services offers turnkey production service solutions for the live music, touring and event industries. GSPS is looking for an electronic technician to set up, maintain and repair electronic systems and devices. This position tests system performance, analyzes, repairs and supplies detailed reports of the results.

This role requires hands-on experience using various hand and power tools to calibrate, repair, solder and align system components and circuitry. To succeed in this position, the electronics technician should also be able to comprehend and follow complex technical manuals. Knowledge of circuitry, reading schematics and performing diagnostics associated with LED products, PCB (printed circuit boards) and low voltage systems are a requirement. Servicing as lead-electronic technician requires leadership in hiring and managing staff and setting up workstations and tools to perform duties. This position reports to the Director of Media Server.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Major Responsibilities:

1. Electronic Systems Set Up, Maintenance & Repair:
  • Set up electronic systems and devices.
  • Diagnose, assemble, repair and connect system components, PCB’s and assemblies.
  • Build prototype and bench test models based on technical and product guidelines.
  • Repair malfunctions in circuitry and other system structures.
  • Read and comprehend complex manuals, schematics and diagrams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external engineers and other professionals on technical tasks.
  • Use and maintain various mechanical and test tools to build and repair systems.
2. Budgeting, Inventory & Project Analysis:
  • Monitor and report on project progress.
  • Estimate damage and calculate material and labor cost required to complete activities.
  • Test system functionality and analyze data.
  • Update reports and maintain parts and product repair inventory for “just in time” repairs.
3. Safety:
  • Ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
  • Follow proper safety protocol at all times.
4. Attendance:
  • Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.
5. Any Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor:
  • To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certificates:
  • An associate degree or apprenticeship as electronic technician.
  • Certification in engineering or electronics is a plus.
Experience:
  • Previous experience as electronic technician or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic testing and circuitry.
  • Familiarity working with various tools and equipment.
Skills/Abilities:
  • MS Office and diagnostic software (e.g. PC-based).
  • Excellent physical condition, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace throughout the shift.
  • Due to the complexity and weight of the equipment, adequate stamina and physical strength are necessary to perform the duties of the job.
  • Work with power cables and power distribution in common live event environments.
  • Work under any prevailing terrain and weather conditions and be appropriately dressed to do so, regardless of cold, heat, humidity, or wet weather conditions.
Strength:
  • Frequent manual lifting, up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).
  • Frequent pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).
Manual Dexterity:
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform activities required under essential functions.
  • Frequent light grasping and fine motor tasks (65-85% of shift).
Coordination:
  • Ability to perform gross body coordination and hand-eye coordination tasks without instability.
  • Work on a variety of uneven surfaces installing power cables and lights.
Mobility
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, lift, crawl, twist and move frequently during working hours.
  • Frequent standing (65-85%).
  • Occasional stair climbing and descending (30% of shift).
Visual:
  • Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met.
Hearing:
