QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree/Education (5.2.4): 
  • Master’s degree in nursing. 
  • Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): 
  • Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, 
  • National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Specialties). 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required. 
Experience: 
  • Minimum 24 months within the last 36 months working as a Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient clinical setting. 
  • Experience shall be in the same clinical specialty.
 Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): 
  • None 
Licensure/Registration: 
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner as required in the TO. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to the following: 
  • The workload includes the evaluation and treatment of emergent, urgent, and non-emergent patients ranging in age as young as newborns to over 65 years. The Nurse Practitioner’s actual clinical activity will be a function of the Commander/Commanding Officer’s clinical privileging process and the overall demand for primary care. The workload is a result of scheduled appointments, walk-ins to the clinic from the Emergency Department, walk-ins for specific diagnoses and telephone calls, and consults (such as pre-op). The Nurse Practitioner will be required to consult with specialty physicians for consultative opinions and continuation of care. The Nurse Practitioner will practice within the guidelines set by the credentialing office of the MTF and the Medical Director. Productivity is expected to be comparable to that of the other civilian and military Nurse Practitioners assigned to the same facility/similar facilities and authorized the same scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner will be assigned an empanelment of approximately 1,250 patients. The Nurse Practitioner shall meet the Air Force Medical Operations Agency (AFMOA) standard of 100 appointments per week: 80 face to face and 20 virtual. 
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated). 
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  •  Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
  •  Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. 
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
  •  Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety. 
  • Shall perform peer review of a minimum of 10 routine cases per month 
  • Shall perform an average of 15 Performance Health Assessments (PHA) per month 
  • Shall perform an average of 5 Medical Evaluation Boards (MEB) per month 
  • Shall perform an average of 10 deployment clearances per month 
  • Documentation. Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the MTF’s Do Not Use Abbreviation List. (AFI 44-172 / AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, 5 November 2013) 
  • Medical Records Documentation. Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.
  •  Coding. Contractor employees shall use the proper coding of procedures and treatment and shall maintain coding accuracy (CPT/E&M/procedure) at the same standard, 90% or higher, as military and civil service health care providers engaged in comparable work.
