The Food Deliverer ensures the food arrives to the assigned locations in a safe and appropriate manner.  As a member of the food service staff, the Food Deliverer must adhere to instructions in the Food Services Manual and follow the guidelines identified for packing and unpacking food.  He/she must also conduct other related duties identified such as conducting inventory, completing temperature log and other tasks.  The food Deliverer ensures that children are receiving nutritious meals in a timely manner and prevention of foodborne illnesses are of the highest priority.
The Food Deliverer is responsible for promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services; building an understanding of the program by communicating the mission to staff, families and the community.
This position must comply with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, standards and policies, including those of the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Massachusetts disability law (Chapter 766), Boston Family Engagement Network (BFEN) and ABCD, Inc. Head Start and Children’s Services policies and procedures. 
All ABCD Head Start/Early Head Start and Children’s Services personnel who are paid to care for, or work with, children are MANDATED BY LAW to report all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 119 §§ 51A – 51G.  Any staff member who suspects child abuse or neglect of a child must inform his or her supervisor immediately.
The responsibilities of a particular position may support both Early Head Start and Head Start depending on the individual assignment. The specific corresponding funding allocation will be documented on the personnel payroll authorization or change of status form.
All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to Head Start's policy on confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Transport meals to local Head Start sites.
  • Deliver supplies to sites as needed.
  • Return food containers to kitchen daily.
  • Store food and equipment appropriately in an organized manner both in the vehicle as well as at the program.
  • Adhere to delivery routes and schedules in order to ensure that safe food temperatures for hot and cold foods are maintained.
  • Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation, including but not limited to the following:
    • Report to the Program Director, information about their health and activities as they relate to diseases that are transmissible through food.
    • Delivery vehicles must be clean and well maintained
    • Maintain records pertaining to food safety if necessary
    • Attend food safety and food allergy training as necessary
    • Following appropriate had washing procedures as specified in the ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services “Hand Washing Policy/Protocol".
  • Conduct inventory.
  • Stock shelves and refrigerators with other truck delivery sites.
  • Complete food temperature log.
  • Deliver food to classrooms.
  • Conduct and document Food Safety checklist at delivery sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseJOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, and a good driving record, as well as access to reliable vehicle to make deliveries.
  • Good organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Must be flexible, prompt and reliable.
  • Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, social orientations, and racial diversity.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Walk and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Drive personal owned vehicle.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and up to 12 months of experience required. Active ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain a ServSafe certification within the first six months of employment also required.
