TEACHER - Part Time  RESPONSIBLE TO:  EDUCATION DIRECTOR  JOB SUMMARY:   The Social Skills Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, non-threatening environment conducive to helping students learn social skills and develop friendships while upholding Social Motion Skills’ standards and core values.   
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that will allow student learning, expression, and safety 
  • Follow social skills lessons provided by Social Motion to teach group social skills in the afterschool program 
  • Utilize basic behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons 
  • Understand and know how the Behavior Skills Training model is incorporated in the social skills lessons 
  • Coach students’ social interactions during weekly facilitated game time 
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct 
  • Complete Class Communication Forms weekly for each student and distribute to parents after each class 
  • Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration any attendance concerns 
  • Know emergency procedures and be prepared to supervise students during such emergencies (fire, natural disaster, terroristic threats, etc.) 
  • Communicate with the Education Director and parents regarding student’s progress 
  • Confer with Education Director regarding any behavioral or disciplinary concerns 
  • Organize and plan for monthly student outings at various community venues  
  • Communicate with parents information regarding class outings and events 
  • Facilitate social interaction among students during monthly class outings 
  • Take photos and videos of classroom activities in accordance with Social Motion guidelines 
  • Supervise and mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students 
  PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Master’s Degree in education, psychology, human development or related fields (strongly preferred)
  • Have a valid Texas teaching certificate (special education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience (Special education preferred) or counseling experience (strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of applied behavior analysis and other evidence-based practices for those on the Autism spectrum
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.
