SUMMARY: The Lead Registered Nurse (Lead RN) works under the Director of Nursing to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinic hours. As a team lead this position coordinates assigns and guides the work activities of the other Nursing staff. This position assists the supervisor in training new staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time with reasonable accommodation.
  • Provide back-up support for the nursing team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.  
  • Assist in the supervision of work and performance of clinic staff to include nurses and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed. 
  • Oversee and train new and existing staff along with the Director of Nursing
  • Assist with patient visits and triage.
  • Assist as needed including medication refill requests, specialty and procedure referrals, and clinic chart review for nurse.
  • Review charts, labs test results, and encounter forms for completeness and  to assess follow-up as needed. 
  • Provide Nurse scheduling and task assignment as needed.
  • Provide direct supervision to other nurses.
  • Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes.
  • Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities using the PDSA model to improve systems/services.
  • Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Director or Nursing or Chief Medical Officer.
  • Assist with administrative projects and tasks as needed.
  • Actively participates in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, counseling, coaching new hires.
  • Works well with others and can discuss, in a professional manner, issues that come up with staff. 
  • Responds to Codes and emergencies in a timely manner. 
  • Works as scheduled.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and re-stock as needed. 
  • Maintains CEUs as required by NC Board of Nursing. 
  • Attends all meetings, in-services, and training activities.
  • Completes annual required training hours as mandated by MNHC policy. 
  • Reports all staff safety issues to the Director of Nursing as soon as possible.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS: 
Licensed as an RN in the State of North Carolina.  Functions within the NC Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act. Current BCLS certification; American Heart or American Red Cross HealthCare provider only.   Three years of experience working in a healthcare facility.  

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Five years’ experience in healthcare facility; experience working in a FQHC/CHC or similar organization; bilingual preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Bilingual preferred with cultural sensitivity necessary to work with a diverse patient and staff population.

TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS
Must understand medical terminology and possess accurate keyboarding skills.  Must have the ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, photocopiers, and facsimile machines.  Must possess the ability to learn, understand, and use internet insurance eligibility systems.  Basic knowledge of excel spreadsheets. 

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.  Excellent telephone etiquette.  Teamwork and communication skills essential. Treat all patients, co-workers, and managers with courtesy and respect.  Possess the ability to work autonomously.

MedNorth Health Center provides comprehensive health care services, inside a multi-cultural medical/dental clinic, to all individuals; insured, uninsured, and underinsured.  The building is heated in winter and air conditioned in the summer with noise levels of moderate to loud.  We serve patients who speak multiple languages and who may need the assistance of an interpreter.  In this position one may be subject to exposure to copier toner, correction fluid, bright fluorescent lighting, and continuous personal computer exposure.

This job is a Bloodborne Pathogens risk category I position.
