Seasonal CVI Ambassador

Position:
The Seasonal Ambassador is responsible for providing services to communities served in the Intervention program. This position will work closely together with the Program Manager, Community Intervention Workers, and Summer Night Lights (SNL) staff to better assist the community during the SNL season. This individual will be primarily responsible for intervention services to community members but will also be involved with referring community members to Intervention and Prevention services during the SNL program. The position will be responsible for peacemaking, incident response, and act as a liaison within the community for the SNL period. ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER.
Dates of Employment: Seasonal employment season is between June 1 and September 30. Days and hours per day are subject to change.
Seasonal Ambassadors are to abide by the following scheduling guidelines and must not exceed a total amount of 248 hours.
Training Hours (Dates TBD):
- Two (2) day CIW training | up to 16 hours
- Three (3) day Youth Squad training | up to 24 hours
Regular Programming:
- Tuesdays: up to four (4) hours/week
- Wednesdays-Saturdays: 8 hours/day, up to 32 hours/week
Reduced Programming:
Friday-Saturday: 8 hours/day, up to 16 hours/week
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Possesses at least entry-level knowledge of the role and duties of the position; understands the department’s roles and can meet the expectations of the position for work schedule, punctuality, attendance, time management, productivity, and quality of work
- Operates as a reliable, flexible team player who works well with minimal supervision; has a good work ethic; can work effectively with team members demonstrating creativity, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to accept accountability and critical feedback. Is receptive to learning and responsive to supervision. Follows established procedures and can contribute to their improvement with a solution-oriented approach. Willing to take direction and learn from others
- Possesses the technical and software skills to perform the duties of the position (including Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office)
- Possesses the interpersonal skills needed to promote a safe, positive, and inclusive professional work environment conducive to effective service delivery; communicates effectively both orally and in writing
- Provides safe passage across gang lines to gang-impacted participants to ensure the safety of participants to receive necessary services.
- Demonstrates cultural competence/cultural humility in community relations and service delivery
- Is sensitive to community, cultural, and personal dignity of program participants and is able to successfully engage, assess, and plan services for participants typical of the program’s target population. Recognizes appropriate boundaries and limitations on interactions with program participants and their families and the need to maintain professional standards and practices. Is familiar with standard approaches to accurate participant record keeping, including timely charting, notation formats, content limitations, and confidentiality practices
- Possesses knowledge of programs, regulations, and procedures regarding human services, social services, justice, and workforce development
- Cultural understanding of the marginalized West Valley communities
- Knowledge of gang environment/dynamics within the geographic area
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attends and participates in all mandatory meetings
- Fosters positive relationships with community members, partner organizations and local gangs
- Participate in cultural and community-building activities/events
- Works to incorporate into organizational culture best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care
- Performs outreach and marketing duties to recruit participants and educate the community on ACE Services.
- Organizes, coordinates, prepares and delivers skills-based workshops for participants
- Works closely with the Program Manager to develop strategic plans to recruit potential Intervention participants, reduce violence within the community, and conduct events
- Serves as a neutral liaison between gang members and the community
- Participates in all Intervention events and facilitates workshops including Summer Night Lights
- Deploys to incidents as directed by the Intervention Program Manager to provide peacemaking, rumor control, and reducing tensions. Deployment is within the West Valley and can include hospitals, crime scenes, LAPD, etc)
- Reduce gang violence by reducing tensions, developing peace treaties, rumor control, community canvassing, conflict resolution, intervention services, and holding pro-social activities/events
- Serves as a point of contact in addressing community violence issues and provides the necessary resources to assist those involved
- Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout facilities.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl to provide services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent community intervention experience
- Preferred but not required: Previous justice-involvement
- Formal gang intervention training (e.g. LAVITA) preferred
- Spanish language skills, verbal and written preferred
- Must submit to a Department of Justice Criminal background check
- Initial TB employment clearance required
The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $18 hourly. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
