  • to add a brief, the Search team has recently handled & remediated multiple critical scenarios that could have caused outage situations due to huge chunks of data indexing jobs found running concurrently with on-demand sorting logic from multiple Applications & caused slowness issues on their hot clusters. However, the search team moved their workloads using an automated switch from hot cluster FSNs (aka rails) to warm clusters in prod env instantly.
  • We also wanted to fine-tune, and optimize Search/Solr configurations as well to handle such concurrent heavy indexing workloads from application teams Thus, suggested adding 1 Solr admin dedicated resource who can mainly work on optimization, tuning search configurations of Apache Solr & enhance search relevancy/accuracy, etc.


Job description:

  • Expertise in Search algorithms, natural language processing & data analytics to support high-quality search functionality for applications
  • Configure and tune Apache Solr instances for optimal performance, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Design and implement efficient data ingestion pipelines to feed Solr indexes with real-time and batch data from various sources.
  • Develop strategies for improving search result relevance through boosting, query refinement, and custom ranking algorithms.
  • Analyze and optimize search queries, handle query parsing, and design filters and facets to enhance search experience.
  • Monitor Solr health, performance, and logs; implement strategies for load balancing, replication, and backup.
  • Work closely with data engineers, backend developers, and product teams to enhance the search experience.
  • Manage Solr version upgrades, and patches, and ensure compatibility with other software components.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in configuring and optimizing Solr, including schema design and indexing.
  • Experience with data formats like JSON, XML, and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and databases.
  • Analytical skills for performance tuning, search relevance, and query analysis.
  • Experience in using machine learning for search ranking improvements or recommendation systems.
  • Proficiency with tools like Apache Spark or Hadoop for processing large datasets.
