Senior Project Engineer - Roadway and Highway in Boston, Massachusetts

What We're Looking For

Are you looking to take a leading role in roadway design? HNTB is delivering the most interesting and complex transportation projects in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We're seeking a Sr Project Engineer to join our Roadway Group in delivering the largest and most complex projects to our clients.

As Sr. Project Engineer, you will coordinate and deliver transportation engineering projects within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. These projects can range from small intersection and multimodal corridor improvement projects to large interchanges, multimodal improvements, and bridge reconstructions. Projects can be either traditional delivery or Design-Build.

You will be a technical resource for the office, responsible for handling specific design aspects on projects related to roadway design and coordinating the technical and project deliverable efforts of the assigned design team. You will also work on the completion of planning-level studies where pedestrian, bicycle, and transit accommodations will need to be incorporated into concept level roadway designs.

What You'll Do:

  1. Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider a broad range of engineering solutions.
  2. Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, leadership, and adherence to the schedule and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.
  3. Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  4. Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
  5. Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
  6. Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.
  7. Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.
  8. Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  9. Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or
  2. Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or
  3. PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  1. Mentors less experienced engineers on technical designs.
  2. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  3. Works collaboratively with the client to build effective relationships.
  4. Has experience incorporating safe, accessible facilities for pedestrians and bicycles into roadway designs.
  5. Has experience on grade-separated interchanges or limited access highway design.
  6. Has experience incorporating transit-related elements such as bus stops and exclusive bus lanes into roadway designs.
  7. Works collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and other engineering disciplines to develop roadway designs that support mobility for all users.

What We Prefer:

  1. 10 years relevant experience.
  2. Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  3. Highly knowledgeable of MassDOT and AASHTO project requirements.
  4. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
