About the role 

We are expanding our team and are seeking a highly skilled UI / UX Designer to play a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of our product and our brand. This role is a combination of UI / UX design and graphic design. You will be responsible for defining and evolving the user experience and design language across Root’s client applications and websites. 


Responsibilities 

You’ll design the user interface and user flow in our client applications and do graphic design as needed

  • Design responsive UIs for Root’s customer-facing desktop, mobile and web applications 
  • Create a design system to be used by external developers to support an app store 
  • Create graphics for corporate branding, developer portal, and documentation 

 

What does success look like? 

Users love the Root client applications that you design

  • Your UI/UX experiences are intuitive, usable, and accessible; users rarely need the docs 
  • Your design system is easy to follow; third-party developers find it useful and flexible 
  • Your graphics are clear and effective; users recognize the Root brand in all your work 


Qualifications 

Five+ years of demonstrated experience as a UI/UX designer for both mobile and desktop applications

  • Designed high volume, consumer-facing applications 
  • Expertise in responsive design and UI/UX best practices 
  • Experience designing cross-platform applications 
  • Proven experience as a graphic designer with a strong portfolio 

UI/UX skills 

  • Responsive UI design across mobile, desktop, and web 
  • Multi-page UI with best-practice navigation 
  • Accessible design 
  • Multi-region localization 

Graphic design skills 

  • UI/UX mock-ups and wireframes 
  • Graphic design tools such as Figma 
  • Iconography, typography, and color theory 
  • Conceptual diagrams to support documentation 

General skills 

  • Analytical skills to define a problem, identify solutions, and recommend a course of action 
  • Communication skills to educate others on how your projects are designed, implemented, and maintained 
  • Project management skills to keep stakeholders informed and deliver to a timeline 

Beneficial skills 

  • Experience with audio and/or video streaming design 
  • Design for branding and marketing 

 

Location 

  • Los Angeles – in office at least 3 days week 
  • USA applicants only
