IFC is seeking a Director to lead the Global Non-Bank Financial Institutions Department, Financial Institutions Group (FIG). The Director will provide leadership and vision to aggressively grow IFC’s activities in the non-bank space to expand avenues for financial inclusion, provide global knowledge and thought leadership, chair investment review meetings, collaborate across the World Bank Group (WBG) on sector strategies, and manage global client relationships.

The position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Vice President, Industries. The Director will be an integral member of the leadership team of the Industries Vice Presidency and work closely with the other Directors responsible for Banking & Capital Markets and Trade and Supply Chain Finance. Together, these three Directors will form the core leadership of IFC’s Financial Institutions Group.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  1. Provide thought leadership and support business development in various non-bank sub-sectors including NBFIs, Microfinance, Housing finance, Embedded finance, Insurance, Distressed Assets, Digital Lenders/Banks, and Credit Funds.
  2. Collaborate with the Director – Banking and Capital Markets and Short Term & Supply Chain Finance to direct the activities of multi-disciplinary global and regional teams.
  3. Chair Investment Review Meetings as called for under IFC’s accountability and decision-making (ADM) framework.
  4. Provide direct oversight and mentoring for managers and other business heads in the non-banking space.
  5. Build strong partnerships and dialogue with the leadership of other partner global financial institutions.
  6. Drive and oversee the development of new products and innovative approaches for IFC.
  7. Establish and develop close collaboration with peers in IBRD/IDA, MIGA, IMF, and other organizations.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance, business, or equivalent and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector.
  2. Strong understanding of the non-bank financial sector with at least 8 years of experience engaging with, or investing in the space.
  3. Commitment to development and a proven track record showing alignment with the WBG and IFC’s mission, strategy, and values.
  4. Strong track record of business delivery, demonstrated investment experience, and established professional credibility.
  5. Solid understanding of broader financial markets and products.
  6. Strong technical understanding of the investment and advisory businesses.
  7. A track record of innovation in developing and structuring products to support investments in emerging markets.
  8. Proven credibility with credit and risk functions.
  9. Ability and willingness to make decisions, take accountability, and hold others accountable for results.
  10. Proven track record of managing and motivating staff across different locations.
  11. Demonstrated ability to assemble diverse, high-performing teams.
  12. Capacity to build strong client relationships that lead to results-oriented partnerships.
  13. Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback and new ideas.
  14. Recognized as a team player, leader, strategic thinker, and thought leader.
  15. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
