We believe that great scientists should do great science.
Labs waste months learning and coding pipelines that become obsolete by the time the next experiment arrives. Mithrl’s “digital agents” create on-demand custom workflows using natural language – in minutes – so that scientists can focus all their time on scientific breakthroughs.
Founded by two scientists, we are a venture-backed, fast-growing startup located in the heart of San Francisco. We are well capitalized and have customers in the US and Europe. Our advisors and backers include some of the most sought-after biotech legends (including the former CEO of Roche).
Who are you?
- You are a creative and ambitious product designer eager to define your early career by working on cutting-edge AI products for the scientific community.
- You thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about designing innovative, user-centric technologies.
- You possess a track record of designing thoughtful, intuitive interfaces that delight users and solve real problems.
- You are a systems thinker who can design holistic product experiences, with attention to both detail and the bigger picture.
What you will do
The Product Designer role is specialized and impactful — your mission is to craft seamless, intuitive, and beautiful experiences for our users. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the way scientists interact with AI-driven tools. Your day-to-day will consist of designing interfaces, gathering feedback, and refining features to meet the needs of the scientific community.
- Collaborate closely with our founders, engineers, and biologists to understand the needs of our users
- Design user-friendly interfaces that make complex AI and bioinformatics tools simple and effective
- Conduct user research and testing to ensure our product meets scientists' expectations and enhances their workflows
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and design assets that can be translated into seamless user experiences
- Iterate frequently, based on user feedback and data-driven insights
- Work on a design system to ensure consistency and scalability across our platform
- Contribute to the product roadmap by proposing and validating new features and enhancements
- Stay ahead of industry trends to ensure Mithrl is always pushing the boundaries of AI in biotech
What you need to succeed
- 5+ years of proven experience as a Product Designer, ideally within a tech or AI-driven company
- Strong portfolio showcasing your design work, with an emphasis on user-centered design and intuitive interfaces
- Ability to distill complex technical concepts into simple, elegant designs
- Experience conducting user research and translating insights into actionable designs
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
- Experience with bioinformatics or scientific tools (nice to have, but not required — we will teach you)
Why is this role unique and important?
This role is perfect for ambitious designers who want to have a direct impact on the future of scientific discovery. You'll work closely with the founders and leadership team, giving you a unique opportunity to shape the product, company culture, and vision. It's a rare chance to be at the intersection of AI, science, and design — solving real-world problems with technology that will change the future of scientific breakthroughs and save lives.
