Increasing access and usability of this new “electricity” to the AI, open and 3rd party developer communities is the mission of the Developer Engineering team in Qualcomm’s Central Software Engineering organization.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Engineering lead to drive the internal developer experience (DevX) transformation needed to bridge the gap between our cutting-edge semiconductor technology and developer communities. Your team will work closely with various engineering, product, support and design teams to create developer-focused tools, libraries, and best practices. This includes defining requirements to improve developer experience as part of the New Product Introduction framework and driving internal dogfood campaigns to measure and ensure products are “developer ready”.

The team’s success will require deep collaboration with our Developer Relations and Marketing teams and participation in their community outreach and advocacy mission. Together we will ensure that our developers have the best possible environment to create, build, and innovate on Qualcomm technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
  2. OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
  3. OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
  4. 4+ years of experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
  5. 4+ years of experience with debugging techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Engagement:

  1. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers and project managers focused on developer experience.
  2. Create internal employee infrastructure to test pre-release products from a developer perspective. This includes but is not limited to dogfooding programs, engagement with open-source maintainers, etc.
  3. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  4. Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development.

Developer Tools, Infrastructure, Documentation:

  1. Collaborate and support development and maintenance of tools, libraries, documentation and frameworks that improve developer productivity.
  2. Champion cross-functional efforts to identify and resolve issues that adversely affect developer efficiency.
  3. Ensure easy-to-use sample applications, and accompanying documentation are of the highest quality.

Process Improvement:

  1. Drive continuous improvement in the developer workflow, including build, test, and deployment processes.
  2. Metrics based decision making and promote best practices for software development workflow like code quality, CI/CD pipelines etc.

Collaboration & Communication:

  1. Work closely with product and engineering teams to understand their needs and challenges.
  2. Advocate for the developer perspective in cross-functional discussions and planning.
  3. Ensure clear and consistent communication of goals, priorities, and progress.
  4. Articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical and technical stakeholders.

Innovation & Strategy:

  1. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  2. Develop and execute a strategic vision for enhancing the developer experience at Qualcomm.
  3. Drive innovation by fostering an atmosphere of experimenting with new tools and approaches to improve development efficiency.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager or similar leadership role.
  2. 8+ years of experience in software development with a deep understanding of developer tools and processes.
  3. Demonstrated experience in actively participating and contributing to open-source and AI projects and communities is essential.
  4. Experience with agile methodologies and software development lifecycle.
  5. Bachelor's degree required.

Technical Skills:

  1. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++. Understand trends in AI/ML model design, and workflow through application developer engagements and latest academic research.
  2. Familiarity with modern development tools and environments (e.g., Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Actions, CI/CD tools).
  3. Understanding of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Leadership Skills:

  1. Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  2. Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop team members.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Problem-Solving:

  1. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  2. Ability to navigate complex technical and organizational challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Background in DevX practices and principles.
  2. Knowledge of security best practices in software development.
