Job Description
General Automotive Mechanic
The General Automotive Mechanic will support service operations by inspecting and maintaining vehicles and equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM | 40-hour work weeks | 5 days a week
Job Responsibilities:
  • Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
  • Maintains vehicle functionality by addressing operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, fixing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, replacing parts and components, and repairing body damage.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operational by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies stocked by inventorying items, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organizational goals by completing related tasks as needed.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing.
  • Reports daily to the Shop Supervisor for all important decisions and work schedules.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as an auto mechanic
  • Dealer experience is preferred but not required
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles
  • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • High energy level
  • Must be able to handle physically demanding work
  • Proven experience delivering quality work and a high level of customer service
  • Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lifts)
  • Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
  • High school diploma is preferred; certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is also preferred
  • Valid certification (e.g., ASE) is a definite plus
