San Francisco, United States Afterpay Full time

It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 47 million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world’s relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.

Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

Cash App is seeking a Head of First Line Risk and Monitoring to build and scale a world-class first line risk management program.

This individual - reporting directly to Cash App’s Chief Operating Officer - is tasked with overseeing the first line of defense against potential risks across Cash App's ecosystem. You will:
  1. Build and lead a team responsible for identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across the first line of defense
  2. Define, measure, and monitor first line activities across Product and Business
  3. Drive investigations and evaluations of risk and dashboards with dedicated analytics resources
  4. Influence & partner with Cash Product, Business, Compliance, and Counsel teams to implement potential enhancements
  5. Work closely with senior leadership across second line of defense functions
  6. Manage global strategic partner and regulator relationships from the first line perspective, supporting ongoing management, audits, and inquiries
  7. Regularly engage with and present to the Block Board of Directors and Cash App’s executive leadership team
  8. Cultivate and embed a strong enterprise risk management culture across the business
  9. Constantly stay informed about all business risks and customer behavior - both current and emerging
Qualifications

You have:

  1. 12-15+ years of experience as a risk professional at a payment/e-money institution, FinTech, financial services firm and/or professional service firm serving financial institution clients
  2. Creative problem-solving skills and a metrics-driven approach to create substantiated solutions
  3. World-class communication skills and the ability to present complex information in a simple and clear manner
  4. Experience managing projects and scaling processes with company growth
  5. A strong track-record of growing and leading teams at scale
  6. Ability to reason about against competing priorities and structure roadmaps to have outsized impact on a business
