Senior Audio-Visual Technician, The People’s House


The White House Historical Association is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion. For more than sixty years, the Association has produced award-winning books on a wide range of subjects related to the history of the President’s House and has actively fulfilled its educational mission with robust educational programming and retail offerings.


“The People’s House: A White House Experience” is a cutting-edge education center that tells the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants, and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions. It features exhibits and galleries that bring the White House and its storied history to life.


The Association is seeking a full-time Senior Audio-Visual Technician for “The People’s House: A White House Experience.”


Position Summary: 

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations of the People’s House and works in close collaboration with the Facilities team, the Exhibits team, and external vendors. 


This position oversees the functioning of the exhibit’s A/V systems, including all audio, video, and display equipment. The Senior Audio-Visual Technician needs to be knowledgeable about various A/V equipment, including Panasonic projectors and video displays, Microsoft Surface tablets, LG Transparent OLED Monitors, and other equipment. 


Responsibilities:

1.      Ensure all exhibit technology is operating, updated, cleaned, and generally maintained in accordance with maintenance standards.

2.      Conduct daily (morning) walks of the exhibit spaces to ensure all exhibit systems are functioning. Conduct periodic daily inspections during operational hours. Conduct daily (evening) walks of the exhibit spaces to ensure all exhibit systems are shut down correctly. 

3.      Rapidly diagnose and resolve system issues during opening hours.

4.      Manage an exhibit log to document problems and maintenance actions. 

5.      Work with the Director of Operations to maintain equipment inventory and warranties for all A/V equipment.

6.      Maintain collaborative relationships with external A/V providers and exhibit integrators.

7.      Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of all equipment in the exhibits, lobby, classrooms, and offices.

8.      Maintain all IT/AV rack room locations to ensure cleanliness, proper labeling, and all other conditions.

9.      Assist with set-up, execution, and breakdown of A/V systems for events outside of working hours, as needed.


Required Qualifications:

1.      Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in the A/V field, preferably for other museum or cultural institutions.

2.      Strong knowledge of CMS systems, computers, projectors, video displays, and IT/AV rack rooms. 

3.      Ability to lift 50-80 pounds.

4.      Comfortable working on large (16ft) ladders.

5.      Relevant certifications and/or a higher level of education.

6.      Able to work a required schedule: Wednesday - Saturday, 7:00am-5:00pm, with availability for weekends and evenings for special events, as needed. Coverage may be requested on other days, as well.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.      Previous experience managing a team.
