Software Engineer

Overview

Bluechew.com is a potent force in direct-to-consumer telemedicine. We have built strong brands and efficient operations to service a large and growing customer base. A key pillar of our achievements has been engineering excellency. Our highly dynamic software engineering team works on a diverse set of complex projects, such as in-house telemedicine platforms, proprietary pharmacy modules, and end-to-end handling of new direct-to-consumer medications.

Join the team and report to the CTO for this full-time software engineer role. The main leaders of the small team are the CTO and VP of Technology, both with PhD degrees. They have built an innovative and practical engineering culture.

Some Technologies We Use

Programming languages: TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go

Databases: SQL and no-SQL, Big Query

Frameworks, key libraries, and runtime: Angular, Node JS, AWS Chime, Free Switch

Infrastructure: Google Cloud, AWS, and on-premises servers

Project management: Azure DevOps

Some Distinguished Projects We Have Accomplished

A proprietary telemedicine system with an integrated electronic health records system, web-based video calls, and SIP-based phone call-to-web conversion.

A complete pharmacy software handling large-scale production and fulfillment.

An e-commerce system with numerous integrated services, such as shipping, payment, emails, etc.

Responsibilities and Duties

Architect and build key features for major business areas such as pharmacy operations, e-commerce, and telemedicine.

Produce high-quality code for peer review.

Provide technical guidance for junior engineers.

Code review for peers.

Qualifications

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Math, Science, Engineering, Economics, or other highly quantitative disciplines, or equivalent experience.

Solid grasp of computer science foundations, mainly algorithms and data structures

Expertise in one or more modern programming languages. Examples are TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, C++, Java, etc.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has written lots of non-trivial code, has had to design creative engineering solutions frequently, and above all is a problem solver with a sound computer science background. To give more context, the candidate would enjoy coming up with a new code architecture, studying a new open-source library, building a new internal library, and designing the detailed steps to implement a big feature. The candidate would know or be able to learn quickly how a standard computer science algorithm works, such as graph algorithms, sorting algorithms, etc. Having written lots of code, the candidate should possess real expertise in at least one programming language.

Highlights of the Position

Highly competitive pay, pleasant work environment, and work/life balance

Be on the ground floor for launching new direct-to-consumer medications.

Be on the cutting edge of both telemedicine and software engineering.

Be a core member of the only software engineering team.

The Interview Process

Round 1: Virtual interview with our HR department

Round 2: a one-hour take-home test if the virtual interview with HR went well.

Round 3: one-hour technical interview focused on algorithms.

Round 4: a second one-hour technical interview focused on algorithms if the first one went well.

Final round: on-site visit to our Austin office to interview with CEO, CTO, and Director of Product.

We are looking for top talent that wants to make a measurable impact in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This role is full-time in our Austin office (not remote, not hybrid).
