BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Facilitates the material supply function to ensure all purchases optimize value and quality while maintaining optimal inventory levels to minimize cars holding for materials.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Purchasing experience required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel experience required
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Strong math skills required - calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep records of material supply activities, maintain files, and create accurate material forecasts.
  • Train less experienced buyers and complete special projects as needed.
  • Work with internal and external customers to address service concerns.
  • Monitor supplier performance, ensure timely delivery of materials, and avoid shortages.
  • Promote paperless transactions where useful and find new suppliers for materials.
  • Present surplus materials to management to reduce excess inventory.
  • Handle failed materials, process new material requests, and review blocked invoices and back-order reports.
  • Prepare and share reports, schedules, and forecasts.
  • Carry out most tasks independently while following general instructions. Get guidance for complex issues and approval for plans when necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a hybrid role with in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at our brand-new office in Charlotte, NC. The office is located at "The Line," within walking distance of the light rail.
