General Summary:

Vertex is seeking talented leaders to join our US Diabetes and Pove/Kidney Business Unit to support our aspirations of bringing multiple potentially transformative therapies to people living with Type 1 Diabetes and Kidney Diseases. There are two separate Sr. Director launch lead roles based out of Boston, MA, HQ in the Seaport District.

The Senior Director, US Marketing will build and lead the marketing team within the newly established US Business Units. They will recruit and develop a high-performing marketing team, develop the launch strategy, and ensure execution of launch prep activities. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercial roles, demonstrated success in leading and developing high performing teams, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment. These roles will report to the Vice President of the US Business Units and are a key member of the BU leadership team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Drives the evolution and implementation of our go-to-market model, cross functionally leading the launch plan to execute against our aspirations of bringing potentially transformative cell therapies to patients.
  2. Builds the marketing team, and coaches the team to deliver exceptional results and operate as a high performing team.
  3. Leads the brand strategic and tactical plans including the annual planning process and related execution.
  4. Leads team to create commercialization campaigns including compelling key messages, unbranded disease education and branded patient and HCP campaigns.
  5. Seeks a deeper understanding of the market landscape through insight generation to best position Vertex competitive position for success.
  6. Drives innovative use of data and technology to deliver with agility, clear evaluation of ROI for all activities.
  7. Defines performance goals and tracks performance against those goals as we prepare for launch, including leading the cross functional launch readiness team.
  8. Provides input into forecasting assumptions, both short term and long term.
  9. Maintains a high degree of external focus with significant customer and field team engagement.
  10. Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals.
  11. Collaborates with communications review committee to approve materials for use with customers.
  12. Manages agency partners and team to ensure on budget and timely deliverables.
  13. Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Experience defining the strategy for a brand or portfolio of products, ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities.
  2. Experience leading teams, coaching individuals and creating excellent team culture.
  3. Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations, monitor performance, and adjust.
  4. Strong innovation skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and courage to challenge the status quo to develop innovative and focused approaches to enable launch through data and technology.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence and strong MS office skills.
  6. Exceptional working knowledge of market forecasts and relationship of business drivers to revenue.
  7. Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team.
  9. Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 20-30%.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree required.
  2. Typically requires 12+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharma marketing, consulting or agency work, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  3. Typically requires 5+ years of management/leadership experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Additional preferred experiences:
    1. Specialty product launch experience.
    2. Cell and Genetic therapy, Kidney and/or T1 Diabetes market experience.
    3. Launching in competitive markets.

Flex Designation:

Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
