Packaging Engineer – Automation and Industrial Controls

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Engineer with expertise in automation and industrial controls to join our team. This role is pivotal in optimizing and enhancing packaging processes for our plastic extrusion manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging engineering, industrial automation, and control systems programming, with the goal of driving efficiency, improving throughput, and reducing manual intervention through automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement packaging systems and processes for plastic products manufactured using plastic extrusion.
- Identify areas for improvement in the packaging workflow and introduce automation solutions to streamline operations, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
- Program and maintain industrial automation controls (PLC, HMI, SCADA) to optimize packaging machinery and ensure seamless operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality control, to assess packaging needs and ensure effective system integration.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with packaging equipment, automation systems, and control hardware/software.
- Lead projects aimed at enhancing packaging line performance, including modifications to existing equipment and the introduction of new automated solutions.
- Analyze production data and apply statistical process control methods to drive continuous improvement efforts in packaging processes.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations in packaging design and implementation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in packaging engineering, ideally within the plastics or extrusion industry.
- Proficiency in automation and control systems programming (PLC, HMI, SCADA, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation equipment and systems.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials, equipment, and processes, particularly in high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with plastic extrusion manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with robotics and automated handling systems for packaging.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
