POSITION SUMMARY:

The Superintendent is responsible for field operations on the project(s) assigned to achieve safe, quality, and profitable projects completed in a timely manner. The Superintendent directly supervises the field labor force, including laborers/craft workers. This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organization, time management, effective communication, and client service skills.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Promotes Cantera’s culture of “Safety First”
  • Communicates with Safety Professionals to ensure a safe workplace
  • Proactively identifies and halts unsafe work practices, and promptly reports them to management to ensure a safe work environment


Operational

  • Report project manhours and quantities on a timely basis
  • Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of field labor force
  • Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts
  • Maintain a working relationship with internal and external clients
  • Develop and maintain site logistics plans in coordination with the Project Manager
  • Monitor costs, including labor, time, and material
  • Manage schedule and ensure all activities take place on or ahead of schedule
  • Maintain and verify as-built drawings are accurate
  • Mobilize the site and set up site utilities
  • Assure necessary permits are secured and inspections occur
  • Inspect cost reports to ensure they reflect accurate quantities
  • Review, understand, document to drawings, and assist Project Managers with all Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Actively coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and craft workers to meet project schedule
  • Maintain on-site accurate shop drawings for implementing the work
  • Complete Daily Project Reports, Concrete Logs, Sign-in sheets, and other documents
  • Coach and mentor crews
  • Coordinate location of control for layout with the Cantera Field Engineering Department
  • Other duties as assigned


JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES GUIDELINES:

  • Broad understanding of the concrete construction industry
  • Ability to lead 10+ man crew
  • Computer and mobile device knowledge and efficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally
  • Functions effectively as part of a team
  • Strong decision-making/problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Able to engage in a variety of tasks, and consistently meet deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience

  • Four (4) years of construction experience
  • Three (3) years of concrete experience


Certifications

  • OSHA 30 preferred but not required
  • CPR preferred but not required
  • First Aid preferred but not required
  • ACI Concrete Testing Technician preferred but not required
  • ACI Concrete Flatwork Technician preferred but not required


WORK CONDITIONS AND HOURS

  • Works on-site over rough terrain
  • Requires overtime hours
  • Often exposed to the elements
  • Must be comfortable with travel on an as-needed basis
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Some weekends are required
  • Frequent activity of standing, kneeling, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulders, pushing and pulling
  • Must be able to climb and work at heights above 6 feet
