We are seeking a strategic thinker to fill the role of CFO. This individual will provide hands-on leadership planning and executing the firm’s finance, treasury, technology and administrative operations. This role is a member of the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Define, plan and execute financial strategies, standards and processes that support firm growth/profitability.
  • Participate in strategic planning by developing financial goals and monitoring/analyzing financial performance against objectives.
  • Oversee corporate admin functions, i.e., board meetings/minutes, compliance, operational processes and controls, etc.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and leadership to IT and Corporate Administration.
  • Oversee financial planning and reporting, budgeting, benefits and insurance, payroll and cash management.
  • Manage day-to-day, month-end, and year-end accounting activities; annual audits.
  • Prepare and publish timely financial statements.
  • Develop and implement accounting processes, procedures, tools and methodologies that support strong fiscal and engagement management. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Support practice leaders/engagement managers on the development of proposals and engagement budgets; define project performance metrics.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements by streamlining, automating, reconfiguring, or recommending and implementing new software/systems.
  • Manage external stakeholder relationships, i.e., auditors, bankers, insurance brokers, information technology partners, advisory firms, etc.
  • Assist with tax planning and other matters; support special projects and initiatives.
  • Create internal relationships as trusted advisor.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to executive leadership, as appropriate.
  • Communicate regulatory, financial, and complex strategic issues in a clear, concise, and relevant manner.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries, issues, concerns, and requests, and collaborate with executives to identify and implement solutions.
  • Maintain strong awareness of firm services, industry trends and relevant regulatory updates and changes.
  • Recruit, staff, train, mentor, and manage assigned department staff as applicable.
  • Set performance standards and conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Partner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. MBA or CPA desired but not required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on financial leadership within an organization that has experienced rapid/large-scale growth.
  • Management consulting or Big 4 background desired.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to provide financial perspective to executive leaders.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of GAAP, with the ability to research and apply accounting principles as appropriate.
  • Expertise in the setup of new service lines/practice units.
  • Strong knowledge of IT (structural/operational support) and corporate administration.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Prior experience supporting M&A endeavors with the ability to assess/evaluate potential deals against the firm’s long-term goals and strategic vision.
  • Exceptional analytic, problem-solving, and organization skills with proven success managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated backbone and professional stature to influence senior executives with fact-based arguments and ideas that offer fresh thinking and drive performance/success.
  • Demonstrated record of effective leadership, including success managing, mentoring, motivating, and developing staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems with the ability to assess compatibility of systems/technology platforms against firm needs.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (advanced Excel and modeling skills)
  • Ability to assess and learn new technology systems/software programs quickly.
  • Willing and able to work from the company’s downtown Chicago office.
