We're seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Private Banking Manager to join our team. This role can be located in San Francisco CA, Newport Beach CA, Los Angeles CA, Denver CO or Seattle WA, and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.


In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:


  1. Manages a large or specialized team of Private Bankers or multiple teams; guides team(s) on identifying opportunities for new/incremental account growth as well as ensuring client retention.
  2. Establishes performance and sales goals for all staff members; tracks/measures and ensures successful performance to these goals.
  3. Manages the group expense and capital budget.
  4. Ensures the sales strategies, tactics and process improvements are met/delivered.
  5. Directs the group to maximize revenues, to develop prospect relationships, and to enhance/grow/retain client relationships.
  6. Will continue to manage a portfolio of key accounts critical to the achievement of team or business unit goals.
  7. Works with peer managers in the business in establishing team strategies for developing and broadening client business relationships with the Corporation. Contacts within the client are at the highest level (C-Suite).
  8. Manages the human and financial resources of the assigned area. Has developed significant expertise on industry trends, competitor services/offerings and clients' business environment.
  9. Recommends and leads the development of firm thought leadership within a region or business segment based on client feedback and industry/segment knowledge.
  10. Works in concert with relevant colleagues to develop and implement new product and client strategies.
  11. Manages resolution of client issues regarding product/services provided in the region to clients. Manages all aspects of client, team and business operating risk and compliance.
  12. Establishes and stewards internal relationships to recommend and advocate for product/service enhancements that will fill underserved client interests.
  13. Recommends areas for firm thought leadership efforts based on client feedback.
  14. Contributes to development of the strategic objectives for Private Banking within a business unit. Identifies areas of focus for achieving incremental growth and establishes protocols to guide Relationship Managers in integrating these focus areas into their clients' account plans.
  15. May establish strategies for pricing and contract terms within the business unit that will optimize client satisfaction yet manage internal risk.
  16. Tracks and reports on relationship strategy/results for assigned team(s)/business unit. Develops and reports on team metrics and dashboards.
  17. Liaises and strategizes with cross-business relationship managers in addition to peer leaders in account management and business development, and serves on governance committees to ensure effective client account coordination throughout the firm.
  18. Drives corporate initiatives through an industry and regional lens. May work with other relationship managers and/or marshals firm-wide resources (marketing, legal, compliance, etc.) to ensure client needs are being addressed and client engagement is sustained, sharing client and business knowledge across the firm.
  19. Serves as an escalation point for critical service issues or roadblocks; shepherds issues through to resolution.
  20. Ensures client onboarding and/or risk management activities are conducted and captured (KYC, BAC, etc.).
  21. Serves as the interface for compliance, regulatory, reputational matters between clients and the Bank. In some regional/local markets may manage relationships with regulators directly.
  22. Recruits, directs, motivates and develops staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team.
  23. Provides feedback at the most critical times.
  24. Teams are geographically dispersed with multiple reporting lines, adding to complexity of oversight.
  25. Responsible for achievement of large, specialized, and/or multiple teams' goals. Ensures teams are equipped to operationalize and attain area objectives. Ensures appropriate financial and human resource allocation.
  26. In some regions, may serve as the primary interface for jurisdictional/regulatory matters and may have entity governance responsibilities.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:


  1. Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Advanced/graduate degree preferred.
  2. Successful completion of a formal credit training program or equivalent work experience required. 10-15 years of total work experience preferred with 3-5 years of management experience preferred (with a concentration in sales, lending, credit/loan underwriting, credit relationship management, compliance, portfolio risk management and deal structuring).
  3. Financial Services experience as is prior experience in Private Banking.
  4. Applicable local/regional licenses (Series 7 and 63) or certifications as required by the business.
  5. Must have an in-depth understanding of the needs of high net worth clients and a deep understanding of the ultra-affluent market; excellent credit skills.
  6. Must have knowledge of banking compliance/regulatory practices.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $144,000 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.


This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
