Primary Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Area Superintendent, the Area Director of Academics (ADA) will assist campus administration to accomplish the mission and vision of ILTexas. The ADA will serve as an extension of all content Directors in HQ for all Houston/College Station campuses. ADA’s focus is the instruction in all academic areas including, curriculum, assessment, dual language, leadership development, AP, and trilingual education. In addition, the ADA will oversee professional development, international teacher support, on-boarding and monitor campuses’ student achievement data. The ADA’s primarily supports teachers, campus instructional coaches, area academic coaches, other instructional staff.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Valid Principal Certification


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Curriculum Design, Implementation and best practices with first instruction
  • Proficient in data interpretation to determine teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to Supervise
  • Determine, develop and facilitate PD as needed
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Experience:

  • Min of 5 years of teaching experience.
  • 4 or more years of experience in Instructional Leadership roles at multiple levels.
  • Min of 2 years of Principal or Assistant Principal experience preferred.
  • Principal experience preferred.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Instructional and Program Management

1. Monitor and oversee instructional programs, instructional strategies and provide support to see the mission and vision of the Charter is implemented as designed.


2. Coordinates, collaborates and work alongside HQ Academic Directors and be an extension to all for Houston/CS Area campuses.


3. Develop campus administration to become instructional leaders through strategic planning of learning rounds.


4. Supervise, appraise and oversee Area Academic Coaches’ schedule as directed by the Area Superintendent.


5. Oversee on-boarding for all instructional staff i.e. teachers, area coaches, campus coaches, other instructional support staff.


6. Lead, create and execute area assessments determined by the Area Superintendent.


7. Monitor campus data, hold DDI for campuses.


8. Provide Area Superintendent with state of campuses based on data, feedback and observations.

9. Area Academic Director is to maintain the dignity and professionalism as a representative of the Houston Area Office.


10. Communicate concerns following the chain of command.


11. Support campuses modeling servant leadership.

12. Works cooperatively with others in developing the mission and articulating a vision for ILTexas.


13. Systematically monitors school improvement and district-wide evaluation activities.
