We are based in San Francisco, with offices in New York, Boston, and Chicago. However, we are also open to hiring in the following states: Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

Senior Vice President, Social Media will be a key leader in developing and driving Highwire’s social media programs. This role will focus on creating and executing innovative social media experiences, expanding our social media offerings, and integrating social strategies into broader digital marketing and strategic communications plans. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure measurable outcomes, driving both client success and agency growth. As a senior leader, you will partner with our other VPs and SVPs of social media, as well as our EVP of Digital, to mentor a growing team of social media professionals and play a significant role in both new business development and organic growth within existing accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Innovation:
  • Develop a strategic approach to comprehensive social media strategies that integrate with broader digital marketing and communications efforts.
  • Stay at the forefront of social media trends, platforms, and technologies, ensuring Highwire remains a leader in social media.
  • Demonstrate an evidence-based opinion on the future of social media platforms, campaign integration and brand / executive social presence.
  • Represent the agency through thought leadership, speaking engagements, and attendance at relevant industry events.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate social media efforts into broader communications and digital marketing plans for clients.
  • Drive client success by delivering strategic, data-driven social media campaigns that align with business goals and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Business Growth & Client Leadership:
  • Lead the social media strategy for key accounts, ensuring programs are impactful and exceed client expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand social media engagements with existing clients by introducing new services, platforms, or tactics that meet their evolving needs.
  • Proactively develop and pitch ideas to existing clients to help them maximize their social media presence and capitalize on emerging trends.
  • Drive organic business growth by deepening client relationships, identifying cross-sell opportunities, and expanding Highwire’s footprint within client portfolios.
  • Lead new business pitches in collaboration with the EVP, Digital, and play a key role in securing new social media-focused clients.
  • Partner with senior leadership to grow social media’s influence within the agency’s overall service offering.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
  • Mentor and manage a team of social media strategists and leaders, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture that supports creativity and innovation.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to support team members in their professional growth and skill-building.
  • Encourage experimentation and adoption of new social media tools, platforms, and technologies to drive innovation within the team.
  • Collaborate with the PR, creative, and content teams to ensure seamless integration of social media into client campaigns.
  • Client Success & Operational Excellence:
  • Ensure social media strategies are executed with precision and lead to tangible, measurable business outcomes.
  • Implement best practices for social media execution, community management, content creation, and influencer engagement.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for social media programs to ensure client satisfaction, operational efficiency, and consistent results.
  • Manage social media budgets, resources, and timelines to optimize performance and deliver on client objectives.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in social media strategy, digital marketing, or communications, with significant experience in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in social media platforms, influencer marketing, content creation, community management, and analytics.
  • Experience in paid social media, including but not limited to: Audience targeting, campaign creation, optimization, retargeting and qualification, whitelisting, and attribution.
  • Proven experience leading and growing social media programs within an agency environment.
  • Strong client-facing skills, with a demonstrated ability to build, retain, and grow senior-level client relationships.
  • Experience executing social media programs in regulated industries is a plus.
  • Track record of driving organic business growth through client expansion and upselling of social media services.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and mentoring talent in the social media space.
  • Ability to develop and execute data-driven social media campaigns that generate measurable business results.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage clients and internal teams at all levels.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results.
  • Experience identifying, vetting and managing vendor relationships for role-specific tools such as social media management or publishing platforms.
