As a key member of our senior IT leadership team, you will shape the future of our clinical applications, ensuring we deliver top-tier services and innovative solutions to enhance patient care and organizational efficiency.

In this high-impact role, the Executive Director (ED), Clinical Applications will lead a diverse team comprised of Epic Training, Clinical Informatics, Clinical Engineering, and Clinical Communications professionals. • Technical and/or implementation experience with Epic inpatient, outpatient, population health, imaging, access & revenue cycle modules.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large teams of full-time employees, consultants, and contractors. Strong track record in implementing and maintaining large-scale Epic systems.
  • Expertise in structured systems lifecycle development and project management. Proficiency in budgeting and planning for large departments and projects. Strong analytical, time management, and leadership skills with the ability to handle complex projects and issues effectively.
  • Strong preference given to those with Epic application certifications (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory and Inpatient, Beaker, Resolute) and certifications in industry standards such as Project Management Professional (PMP), ITIL, or CHCIO.
What You’ll Gain
  • Opportunity to influence and shape the IT landscape at one of the leading academic medical centers in the nation. You’ll develop and refine your strategic leadership skills, drive innovative solutions, and ensure best-in-class service delivery.
  • A unique platform to collaborate with senior leadership, manage substantial budgets, and lead a high-performing team committed to excellence.
  • Ability to directly impact the quality of patient care and operational efficiency, providing a rewarding and challenging career experience.
What You’ll Do
  • Strategic Oversight: Develop and implement short and long-term goals related to IT applications and services, ensuring alignment with UChicago Medicine’s strategic direction.
  • Application Management: Oversee all application services and systems, exceeding service level agreements. Establish and communicate application standards and architecture.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a diverse team, including trainers and clinical informaticists, ensuring high-quality education and support for all EMR users.
  • Vendor and Budget Management: Supervise third-party vendors and manage a significant annual budget. Provide regular reports to management on project performance, metrics, and application systems.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication between staff, vendors, and other technology resources. Represent IT in committees and forums, reporting on critical issues to the CIO.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends and innovations, integrating them into our strategic plans. Contribute to clinical delivery and process improvement programs.
