GENERAL SUMMARY:

The teacher is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to students, assessing their progress, and creating a positive and engaging learning environment. They must also communicate with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders, as well as participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve their teaching skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement and evaluates IEP’s for all students.
  • Write curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Maintain contact with parents.
  • Administer and score standardized testing for students.
  • Provides safe learning environment.
  • Provides conflict resolution, crisis intervention and physical restraints of students.
  • Provides social skill training.
  • Calculates grades and weekly behavioral assessment reports.
  • Assist in maintenance and security of agency grounds, facilities and equipment.
  • Dialog with treatment staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Is able to represent agency in home school transition meetings and team meetings as needed.
  • Adheres to St. Charles Youth & Family Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Interacts with clients in a positive and therapeutic manner according to policy, procedure, training and Agency Guiding Beliefs.
  • Observe, assess, and document client activity per agency/program standards (client logs, incident reports, behavior management logs).
  • Occasional transportation of clients (outings, field trips) if designated as an approved driver and with written supervisor approval.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of one year experience (or training in relation to) working with school age youth. (Experience with at risk preferable).
  • Ability to be able to write curriculum, IEP’s, grade reports, incident and physical intervention reports.
  • Wisconsin Teacher Certification in appropriate area or ability to obtain an Emergency license and maintain yearly in the following area.
  • Ability to display cultural competence and sensitivity to the populations we service by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, socioeconomic characteristics, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of Exceptional Ed. and IEP procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Attention to detail and good organization skills.
  • Ability to physically restrain students when appropriate.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • School setting/indoor classroom.
  • Occasional outdoor fieldtrips with students.
  • Travel approximately 10% using company vehicle.
