EPIC Integration Manager

Reporting to the BSIM-DCHS Infrastructure and Security Manager, this role will manage the interfaces of the EPIC system within BSIM-DCHS Healthcare, primarily focusing on the implementation of the system and then providing ongoing support. The Epic Interface Manager is responsible to develop, manage, document, coordinate and track technical aspects and staff for all interface components of Epic, including the electronic health record. This will include, where applicable, leading the implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of these interfaces. The Interface Manager needs to be able to coordinate these efforts with the larger Epic team, as well as support and implement the specific interfaces. The position will serve as a technical resource for the project team with primary responsibilities for all aspects of implementing interfaces between MFA clinical and practice management systems with MFA vendors, provider organizations, and other third-party organizations as required. The individual must be able to maintain clinical and regulatory requirements in mapping tables, HL7 messaging standards, and maintaining clinical and external entity EHR demands.
MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Data Review and Guidance
- Managing the entire cycle of one or more data types for legacy data conversion, including analysis, data element mapping, testing and validation, error resolution, and production loads
- Working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and third‐party application experts to determine business needs, document requirements, and configure conversion interfaces per the requirements.
- Partnering with these groups to diagnose and resolve conversion‐related issues and validating usability with end users. Identifying and escalating risks associated with technical project tasks and legacy data source systems
- Coordinating application build requirements for conversion Communicating with applications, third‐party vendors, legacy system technical resources, and operations stakeholders
- Defining and completing setup for the transport method by which extracted source system data will be communicated to Epic, including troubleshooting data transport mechanisms
- Understanding Epic data structures and documenting technical specifications detailing target data elements Interpreting scope and business requirements for each dataset.
- Analyzing and manipulating large volumes of external data into an appropriate format for filing into EpicInterface Design and Architecture
- Develops and maintain system interfaces
- Focuses on HL7 integration supporting back-end processes for financial and clinical applications and reporting
- Guiding interface design and build, testing the system, and analyzing other issues associated with Bridges interfaces
- Working with Epic representatives, interface engine developers, third‐party representatives, your organization's community partners, and operational stakeholders to ensure the system meets your organization's business requirements
- Managing escalations and acting as final decision maker for Bridges interface team decisions ﴾for example, what functionality is implemented in your interface engine or Bridges interfaces﴿
- Reviewing the status of active projects and issues on an ongoing basis with project leadership
- Holding weekly meetings with team members to discuss the status of deliverables, shared issues user concerns, budget, and upcoming milestones
- Interpreting and assessing issue impact and setting priority of issue resolution within the team
- Operational Management
- Managing the entire implementation cycle of interfaces, web services, and industry‐standard APIs ﴾such as FHIR﴿, including analysis, design, specification, implementation, go‐live, and support
- Working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and third‐party application experts to determine business needs, document requirements, and configure interfaces per the requirements.
- Partnering with these groups to diagnose and resolve interface‐related issues and supporting ongoing application projects as needed.
- Reviewing, triaging, and resolving day‐to‐day interface errors, including coordinating with technical teams, application teams, and third‐party system representatives as necessary
- Identifying and escalating risks associated with technical project tasks and third‐party systems
- Coordinating interface‐specific tasks and activities like testing, build, cutover planning, and go‐live by engaging subject matter experts, vendors, server and networking teams, Epic Client System Administrators, and interface engine developers
- Working with interface engine developers to develop data‐translation strategies to support the needs of Epic and your third‐party systems
- Providing proactive support by monitoring live interfaces and collaborating with experts to resolve issues
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in computer science OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the incumbent to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- One (1) year of relevant work experience.
- EPIC Certifications preferred
- Strong analytical, technical, and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Centers or similar practices
- Experience working in a community clinic or healthcare setting
- Experience developing and supporting interfaces between systems
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Driver’s license in good standing.
- Bachelors degree in a healthcare-related field, Information Systems or Business Management
- Preferred certifications in at least one Epic application/module; Epic Bridges; Rhapsody Associates
- Preferred certifications in Rhapsody Professional and/or Epic DC Admin
- Familiarity with EMRs or directly in the EPIC system
