PHLEBOTOMIST - Full Time

Position Purpose:
Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed. Responsibilities include bleeding time tests, blood cultures, blood samples.
HOURS: 5:30-14:00 Monday-Friday
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtains and/or Processes blood specimens and non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, feces, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of proper tubes, equipment and volume for proper specimen collection and completes duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders, and outpatients.
- Displays courteous, professional manner toward patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.
- Accessioning and processing specimens to prepare for laboratory testing.
- Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch testing.
- Maintains proper record management and bookkeeping.
- Maintain a clean, obstacle free, well organized and properly stocked laboratory and corresponding areas of the facility.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to facility policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of organization policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in identifying problems and recommend solutions.
- Skill in maintaining department quality assurance.
- Ability to work independently and effectively.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to obtain and remain current in Basic CPR.
- Must be oriented and skilled in phlebotomy and general specimen collection.
- Be proficient in the EMR Welsky within 90 days of hire.
Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Certified phlebotomy technologist or medical assistant course.
Licensure: CNA REQUIRED. Prefer a valid driver's license. CMA, RMA or CPT preferred. CPR certified.
Experience: Preferred one - two years of hospital experience.
