POSITION PURPOSE
The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for managing high-quality, timely coding of diagnoses and procedures for both inpatient and outpatient accounts. This role requires proficiency in using ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS classification systems. The coder will work closely with physicians, technicians, and other integral parties to discuss and analyze coding results. Additionally, the coder will develop and execute policies and procedures that impact immediate operations and potentially the entire organization.

PAY
$30.00 + $4.93 (Health and Wellness Benefit)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manage the coding of diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS systems.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in coding for inpatient and outpatient accounts.
  • Work closely with physicians, technicians, and other stakeholders to discuss coding analysis results.
  • Analyze medical documentation to identify issues, events, diagnoses, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures affecting immediate operations and potentially the entire organization.
  • Select methods and evaluation criteria for accurate results.
  • Gather physician background information from various resources for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare summaries and assign appropriate codes.
  • Make corrections after physician review and submit approved reports to managers in a timely fashion.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to five years of experience in medical coding.
  • Deep experience with administrative information systems and applications.
  • Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC (CCS or CPC) is required.
  • Experience with Military Health System coding is preferred but not required.

MACHINES & EQUIPMENT
The incumbent must be able to effectively operate the current computer system, telephone system, and other office machines such as a copier.
